Ex-LG boss cautions Edo APC against unguarded utterances

A parliamentary candidate in the People’s Democratic Party, and an ex-wife local government chairman of Ikpoba Okha local government in Edo State, Hon Osamede Edorodion has cautioned the All Progressives Congress in the state to be mindful of its utterances, as they may be used against the party in the future.

Edorodion, who spoke to Saturday Newswatch in Benin, stated that it was wrong for Governor Adams Oshiomhole to say that people were defecting from the party because he refused to share money with them. The one time local government chairman advised the governor to find out why his party faithful were leaving in droves, instead of making frivolous assumptions: “My time with APC was a waste of time politically. When I hear the governor in the news  saying those who left for POD did so because he did not share the state money with them, I laugh. For me, the governor did not even know me talk of to share money with him. I also hope he is not sharing the state money with anybody, because  on the day of reckoning, he will account for it. If APC is wise, they would be trying to know why people are leaving the government in power”.

Edorodion, who is gunning for Ikpoba Okha state constituency in the state, and one of those to defect from APC expressed optimism that the PDP will win all the seats in Edo State in 2015, since, according to him, the political generals are now in PDP, and are the ones people listen to.

He urged the people of his constituency to engage themselves with the INEC registration exercise to avoid being disenfranchised: “I urge the good people of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area to come out and register in this voters registration exercise. The voter’s card is their civil right to change this government of APC”.

Edo Acting Speaker finally dumps APC for PDP
*5,000 others also dump party

Acting speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Honourable Festus Ebea has finally decamped from the All Progressives Congress, APC to embrace the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

Ebea, who formally moved to the PDP at a rally in Ubiaja on Saturday, headquarters of Esan Southeast Local Government Area of Edo State, was the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly until recently, when the House split along party lines, forcing him to take the mantle of leadership of the PDP faction.

The lawmaker had fallen out of favour with the leadership of the Assembly, which accused him of anti-party activities and subsequently suspended him, along with three other APC lawmakers namely Patrick Osayimwen, Friday Ogieriakhi and Jude Ise-Idehen, on June 9 this year.

Ebea had made it clear after the suspension that there was nothing wrong with anyone decamping from any party so long as the method does not violate the constitutions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He had maintained his membership of the APC, while the other three lawmakers had left.

An impeachment had been pronounced against him by an APC-dominated factionof the Assembly, while Ebea had assumed leadership of the PDP faction, and this had led to squabbles that threatened the very soul of the Assembly.

The two factions in the last four months have held parallel plenary along party lines and at two separate locations, with the nine PDP members electing him as their Speaker  in July.

Ebea who addressed newsmen at the event stated that the APC as a party has lost direction flowing from the ideals of the defunct ACN on which platform he contested and won the state assembly seat in 2011.

“My constituency has been particularly sidelined in the scheme of things inspite of numerous promises and budgetary allocations for development projects that were never executed by the state government. My people have wondered if this should continue”.

He said that on the other. Hand, the PDP has proved at the national level with President Goodluck Jonathan at the helm that Nigeria can be transformed with credible and people-centred leadership and development programmes.

“Even at the state level the constructive leadership style of the state chairman, Chief Dan Orbih has helped put the party into reckoning as a competent opposition which can and will take over the state house in Benin city in 2016”.

Ebea also used the occasion to formally declare his intention to seek re-election to the State Assembly as representative for Esan Southeast said that he remains committed to transforming his constituency with ‘trusted, tested and dependable’ legislation’ that will help bring about the needed development of the locality.

The event which featured top PDP leaders including Senator Odion Ugbesia,  the senator representing Edo Central and the Local Government party chairman, Deacon Stephen Oriakhi among other and saw Ebea throwing away the broom, the APC symbol in favor of the umbrella along with over 5000 estwhile APC  leaders and members from the locality.
