In the past four years, back to back, Abia State ranked number ONE in performance in West Africa School Certificate Examinations in Nigeria. In addition to building 359 new classroom blocks and four new model schools, Governor Ikpeazu used Australian Education providers to retrain more than 3,000 Abia School teachers and subsequently established a continuous teachers training institute in Umuahia.

The Ikpeazu administration is also feeding primary 4-6 pupils while the federal Govt is complimenting the effort by feeding primary 1-3 pupils in Abia public schools. More than 5300 cooks are employed in the school feeding program with directive from the Governor that they must also feed their own children and teachers.

As a result of the focused efforts of the Governor, public school enrollment in Abia State has improved from 142,000 in 2015 to over 650,000 currently.

Atiku: Giving a dog a bad name, By Daniel Alabrah

On November 14, 2018, the Saturday Sun led its front page with the bold headline: “The Atiku Dilemma,” with two accompanying riders: 1. We want to prosecute him for graft but no evidence to nail him, says Itse Sagay; and 2. Ex-VP now vindicated – PDP.

Sagay is chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), one of the bodies empanelled by President Muhammadu Buhari to deepen his so-called war against graft in Nigeria.

Given the albeit selective disposition of the Buhari administration to the war against corruption, it was expected that it would fire a rebuttal or even query Sagay for giving the President’s main challenger in the February 16, 2019 election such a weighty clean bill. But days, weeks and months have since passed without even a caution to Sagay.

From the report and Sagay’s comment, one perceived some kind of frustration on the part of the federal government to bring the former Vice President to face the wrath of the law. “We want to prosecute him (Atiku) but no evidence to nail him,” Sagay had lamented.

It is like telling a sworn enemy: God saved you otherwise I would have dealt with you. After all, what the Buhari trumpeters want everyone to believe and accept is that Atiku is corrupt and, perhaps, the most corrupt politician to have held public office in Nigeria regardless of not being convicted by any court.

To that extent, it was a surprise that the old wily law Professor, known for his many flip-flops since he became a part of the Buhari administration, made such a courageous positive declaration about Atiku.

It was also expected that after Sagay’s unsolicited clearance of Atiku, other members of the Buhari chant group would take a cue and search for other ammo apart from the time-worn allegations bordering on corruption to throw at Atiku. But whosai!

Since he emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate and the major hurdle to Buhari’s second term bid, Atiku has sucked in with equanimity the fiery darts from the latter’s vociferous brigade. But, recently, he said not anymore as he took the fight into the lion’s den and dared the king of the jungle to a battle. He fired a direct shot at Buhari, who claims to be Mr. Integrity, to come clean on the allegation that members of his family and cronies corruptly acquired shares in Keystone Bank and the Arabian telecoms giants, Etisalat, which has morphed into 9Mobile in Nigeria.

Shockingly, instead of responding to the grave allegation, the Presidency decided to play the ostrich and challenged its accusers to show proof. Knowing the way it addresses such issues, many Nigerians are of the view that if there was no substance in the allegation, Buhari would have threatened to go to court to seek legal redress. I am not aware he has done that yet. Perhaps, he is hoping the wind on the matter would sooner than later blow away and Nigerians would move on to other issues as usual.

I doubt very much if that would be the case on this matter that borders on the only foot on which the President is standing to prosecute his re-election bid. Not having a strong showing in terms of performance and achievements after almost four years in office, President Buhari is relying on only his integrity to campaign. Interestingly, his strongest weapon has come under serious scrutiny. I totally align with Atiku that Mr. President should come clean on this allegation regardless of the rebuttals from Keystone Bank and Etisalat.

So far, the response from the Buhari campaign organisation has been anything else but tepid. The effort of its Director of Strategic Communication, Barr. Festus Keyamo, to divert attention from the real issue has fallen flat. His riposte was at best an exercise to personalise the matter. Instead of addressing the weighty allegation against his principal, the official spokesperson rather resorted to his trademark unsubstantiated accusation of corruption against Atiku. In his words, if Nigeria was working, Atiku ought to be in jail.

This however raises some questions. If Atiku should be jailed for alleged sundry acts of corruption that albeit have not been proven by any court anywhere, what about a man who committed treason by truncating Nigeria’s democratic march? If Buhari and his military acolytes had not toppled the Shehu Shagari government in 1983, would Nigeria be where it is today? Whether Keyamo accepts it or not, Buhari’s forceful grabbing of power from an elected people-enthroned government set Nigeria backwards and arrested our political and economic development. Yet this same man, without showing any remorse, wrote a highly patronising and platitudinous condolence message when the person he overthrew passed on recently. Shame now has a different meaning in the dictionary!

Whenever you listen to the Buhari gang speak on Atiku and the issue of corruption, you would think that the legal dictum of an accused not being guilty until the court proves otherwise had been abolished. Clearly, their only objective is to convict the former VP in the courts of public opinion (and in the eyes of voters) knowing as Sagay had said there is no concrete corruption evidence against Atiku. If that was not the case, there is no way the vindictiveness deployed in prosecuting the selective Buhari anti-graft war would have spared the PDP presidential candidate. It is indeed a forlorn hope to expect America, another country with its own laws and statutes, to try a man you accused without evidence in your own country because of what Keyamo called sealed indictment. So much for legal jargons!

While not holding brief for Atiku, who has even challenged the government to prosecute him if it has any evidence of corruption, it is now clear that this is a case of calling a dog a bad name just to hang it. The singular objective of the Buhari campaigners is to besmirch the PDP candidate’s reputation. And the method is simple. Make unsubstantiated and tendentious allegations that cannot stand even the weakest scrutiny in the courts in order to make Atiku unelectable in the eyes of the electorate. Spreading falsehood and wicked propaganda is a veritable tool of their politics and their campaigns for election. Without a shadow of doubt, Atiku has become a bone in their throat. They cannot swallow him and they also cannot vomit him.

As it is, while the ball is in Buhari’s court to respond to the challenge of clearing his name, the Atiku fever is gaining momentum by the day as it sweeps across Nigeria. The campaign of calumny against the PDP presidential candidate has obviously not had the desired effect. They have now resorted to other equally incendiary methods to intimidate and scare their main opponent in the February 16 contest. That too will fail!

SENATE: Attempts To Frustrate Prince Of Mburubu Will All Fail-PRESS RELEASE

THE attention of Aka Ekpuchi Ọnwa Campaign Organization has been drawn to a failed but callous attempt by some never-do-wells to frame up the All Progressive Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial zone, Prince Lawrence Ezeh in a kidnap saga.

These never-do-wells had on Wednesday, 23rd January 2019 played out a very poor script on Ovu bridge along the Nkanu East road feigning that they were kidnapped. It was an attempt to blackmail Prince Ezeh, knowing that he is surely and gradually coasting to victory.

It’s unfortunate that enemies of Enugu East Senatorial zone who are scared of the coming good leadership of Engineer Lawrence Ezeh are running from pillar to post in an attempt to discredit him in order to create reasons to call him a bad name.

Facts check reveal that the same elements allegedly brought down the statue of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in Mburubu, and tried to frame it on the Prince. Their efforts paid off as they were given political appointments by the government.

They have also made frivolous attempts to stop our principal’s ambition at the court using APC elements who lost out at the primaries. That also didn’t work.

They are now trying to cook up this story of kidnap which they believe is the last resort, to criminalise our candidate and bring down his popularity.

Barely one week ago, yet another attempt was made on the life of Prince Lawrence Ezeh during his campaigns at Iva Valley Primary School, Enugu. The hoodlums who traced the campaign train were apparently intimidated by the crowd, and out of frustration, set fire on one of the campaign buses before they ran off.

The general public should bear in mind the character of the opponent of our principal, who is the candidate of the People’s Democractic Party (PDP).

Everyone who know Enugu well is aware of the kind of things he is capable of doing and his antecedents when he was governor.

Aware that this is most likely his last political outing, and that he is heading for another failure, one can only imagine what he would do in order to win in the coming elections.

We hereby wish to state categorically that we have been aware of all these fabrications being incubated to bring down the towering image of Prince Ezeh.

Ordinarily, we would have best ignored them, however we are constrained to speak up, on account of the severe implications of these fabrications.

Be aware that no one can stop the fortunes of Enugu East Senatorial zone this time, which is coming through Prince Lawrence Ezeh. Aka Ekpuchi Ọnwa, no hand can cover the moon.

Prince Lawrence Ezeh is winning the coming Senatorial elections, and will be sworn in as the next senator of Enugu East Senatorial zone. We therefore call on the General Public to disregard their failed attempts and vote wisely in the February 16 Senatorial election, by voting Prince Ezeh for the betterment of Enugu East.

Buhari, Oshiomhole Vow To Deliver Prince Lawrence Ezeh, Others To Senate

The duo of President Muhammadu Buhari and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have vowed that they will deliver the senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Enugu East Senatorial zone, Prince Lawrence Ezeh to the Senate come February 16 2019. They also said that the APC is poised to ensure that every candidate of the APC, from presidency down to House of Representatives wins their seats to ensure a consolidated government.

The president and Oshiomhole, who is the National Chairman of the party were speaking at the official flag-off campaign rally of the party in Enugu State, which held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Stadium, Enugu.

The President in his speech, expressed delight about the quality of National Assembly candidates marshaled out by Enugu State APC, and hoped to have a robust relationship with them.

Presenting Prince Ezeh and other senatorial candidates the party flag at the podium yesterday, Oshiomhole said “Our campaign is from the top to the bottom, and I need to define it. We need our president to continue the good work he has started, so that the work going on at Niger Bridge will not be terminated. The only way to guarantee it is for Mr President to have another four years, so when we say four plus four, there is a purpose. We want the dualization of roads going on in different parts of the South East to go on.

“We don’t want a lonely president. our electoral system is based on the separation of powers. If we have the president getting votes, and the senators don’t get votes, this president cannot function. Everybody that believe in President Muhammadu Buhari must also believe in the candidature of the three senatorial candidates that are contesting for elections on February 16. We must also believe in believe in the candidature of all the contestants for the House of Representatives for APC. It is the same broom, broom for president, broom for senate, broom for reps. But remember, we don’t want to govern Nigeria in Abuja and you don’t have your governors in the states. That is why it will amount to anti-party activity for anybody to say ‘vote this way, and not that way’. After you have voted on February 16, please come out on March 2 and vote APC, because this historic city of Enugu is not the birthright of a particular political party, and I believe the energy, the creativity, the doggedness, the passion with which Ayogu Eze has mobilized and organized has shown that he won’t be exhausted as the next governor of this great state.

“But also remember that governors cannot function without members of the House of Assembly. So with the same principle, when you vote, you must also vote all members of the House of Assembly. So it is from top to the bottom, no bend bend, no corner corner, straight”, Oshiomhole stated.
