The Enugu State Government has reported a fresh suspected case of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Permanent Secretary in the state’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi, made this known in a statement on Sunday.
The authorities in Enugu have quarantined a 70-year old woman from Owerri, Imo State suspected to be infected with Coronavirus.
The suspected COVID-19 patient had traveled to UK five months ago to see her children.
She came into the country on Wednesday March 11, 2020 through Lagos and Owerri, and showed signs of fever , cough and mild respiratory distress.
She initially went to University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH Enugu, but was rejected and she subsequently left for ESUT Parklane Hospital. Upon suspicion of COVID-19, was quickly transferred to Colliery Hospital, GRA for quarantine.
Consequently, doctors collected oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swab and sputum.
As at the time of this report, the samples had been dispatched to Irrua Specialist Hospital, Edo State for test and possible confirmation of COVID-19 infection.
Meanwhile, the woman, Jungle Journalist Media Limited gathered, is diabetic, hypertensive and has a peritoneal shunt.
She is currently being managed by a multi-disciplinary team from ESUTH Parklane Enugu.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said it is monitoring the case.
Writing via their official Twitter account on early Sunday morning, the agency said the results of the case who is already in isolation will be ready on Monday.
The tweet reads: “The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control is aware of the patient in Enugu, suspected to have #COVID19.
“This is one of several alerts received daily at the National #COVID19 Emergency Operations Centre.
“The patient is in isolation, sample collected and results expected tomorrow.”
