The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of the soldiers in a viral video threatening to rape women in Warri, Delta State.
It said the personnel were arrested on Friday evening at 9 Brigade Ikeja Military Cantonment in Lagos State.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the arrest of the soldiers in a statement via its verified Twitter handle.
The irate soldiers had threatened to molest Warri women over alleged beating of two military men following the killing of a 28-year-old Joseph Pessu by a soldier on Thursday.
But the Nigerian Army in the state said it had commenced investigation of the soldiers and appropriate sanction will be meted out to the officers at the end of its investigation.
According to it, “Soldiers in a viral video using uncouth and uncivilized language purportedly threatening to molest women in Warri Delta State were arrested at 9 Brigade Ikeja Military Cantonment Lagos State today 3 April 2020 and further investigation is ongoing.
“The general public should be assured that the investigations will be swift and fair in accordance with applicable military laws. The outcome of the investigations will determine the most appropriate disciplinary measures that can be taken in the circumstances.”
The statement stressed that the army will not tolerate any act of indiscipline by its personnel.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate that it would not tolerate any form of irresponsibility and indiscipline on the part of any of its personnel”, he added.
