Abia State Homeland Security team led by the Commisioner for Homeland Security, Prince Dan Okoli, has intercepted a cache of Northern Almajiris along the Lokpanta axis of the Enugu /Port Harcourt expressway.
The Almajiris according to reports made available to Jungle Journalist Media Limited, the Almajiris were neatly hidden in trucks conveying cows to the state. They were intercepted and turned back, the report said.
Speaking with Jungle Journalist Media Limited, Sate Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu said some other trucks were also stopped yesterday, Monday, alongside several other vehicles attempting to enter the state from the Enugu State axis.
He also denied reports making rounds that some trucks had entered Aba yesterday, describing it as untrue. “No truck entered Aba from the North. They were stopped at the Lokpanta boundary. Whoever told you that he saw some should have sent you photos or videos to authenticate his story”, Kalu said, adding that some people will be dispatched immediately to investigate the matter.
Recall that the State Government had raised alarm Sunday night, alleging that Covid-19 – positive Almajiris were being transferred to Abia from Northern Nigeria.
The Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu had then “directed all security agencies in the state, especially those posted to inter-state boundary communities, members of the State and LGAs enforcement task force teams as well as the inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19, to ensure that within this period of the subsisting border closure necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic, no individual or group is allowed to enter the state, aside from those duly exempted, from any other part of the country”.
