The Management of Tansian University, Umunya (TAU) has appointed a new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council.
He is Prof Nduka Uraih. The inauguration of the Governing Council of the University was conducted by the Founder and Honourable Chancellor of the University, Very Rev. Msgr Prof John Bosco Akam, a ceremony which took place on Tuesday 15th September 2020 at the University Council Chamber in Ununya, Anambra State.
Other people also appointed with the new Pro-Chancellor include the following: Chief Dr. Victor Oye; Hon. Carter Dike Nnamdi Umeh; Hon. Chief Chukwuma Puis Okoye; Chief Sir J.J. Ezeokafor; Chief Ugochukwu Chibuzor; Rt. Hon. Chief Chinedu Obidigwe; Prof Stella Chinyere Okunna; Rev. Emmanuel Ezugwu; Sir Lawrence Edeh; Hon. Somtoo Udeze; Dr. Engr. Chris Chukwurah, Hon Bob Tough; Hon Chief Tony Nworah; Chief Felix Akosa and Barr. Nonso Isiugo Arinze.
Other members are, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. E.U. Nwadialor; The Acting Registrar, Rev. Dan Igwilo; Bursar, Valentine and the University Librarian.
Inaugurating the Governing Council, Msgr Prof. Akam who is also the Chairman of Board of Trustees welcomed the new council members and highlighted that, “this team of men and women with a combined wealth of knowledge and expertise in corporate governance, fundraising, financial oversight, and the development of the creative industries I look forward to their advice as we work towards growing TAU to be a catalyst in unlocking the potential of the University in the country.”
Msgr. Prof. Akam said since the inception of the University 2007, TAU has introduced a strategic shift, which saw it beaming with success in all academic spheres, while also championing the recognition of the role of private universities creativity and stimulating economic growth in the country.
“To strengthen these giant strides and help in repositioning the University to take a centre stage in driving the growth of the quality education in Nigeria, I have appointed a new council as a governance structure that will drive a growth strategy and provide oversight to the Tansian entity”.
“We are thankful to all those, who were nominated for accepting nomination. While they may have not been selected today, we will always appreciate their contribution in many other platforms which are to be created by the department.
“It is my considered desire that this august body will chart and evolve a road map towards re‐invigoration of the vision and mission of Tansian University,” the Founder concluded.
Receiving the new council, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eugene Nwadialor, expressed joy for what he described as “a formidable team that in their very first council meeting, displayed strong principles of ethics, integrity and accountability, as well as demonstrated commitment to reengineering the University into greater heights.”
“The entire University is very elated for their support and decisiveness, and trust that they will add value to the work that we have already started. Now watch the space,” he said.
In his inaugural address, the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Nduka Uraih, said the appointment of the new members serves to strengthen the University.
According to him, “when I look at the background, pedigree and caliber of all the members in this new Governing Council, there is no scintilla of doubt that these are accomplished and successful men and women in their different professions. Consequently, I am sure that our experiences from our different backgrounds will no doubt avail the Council of a rich, mosaic, variegated and quality opinions and counsel in the conduct of Council affairs.”
The Council has hit the ground running and held its first meeting on Tuesday, 15 September 2020.
