Enugu Group condemns killing of #EndSARS in Lekki, calls for independent panel to investigate incident

Enugu based socio -political organisation, Enugu State Continuity and Equity Movement(ESCEM), has condemned in very strong terms, the killing of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos as well as other parts of the country.

In a statement by the Publicity Secretary Comrade Onyendozi E. Onwe and made available to Jungle Journalist Media Limited in Enugu, it described the wanton killing of the protesters as barbaric, uncivilized and wrong approach in handling the demands of the youth.

“We are grieved and saddened that the security agencies who should rather protect the lives and properties of Nigerians are the one carrying out this heinous attack on innocent citizens.

“ESCEM wishes to state that peaceful protest is guaranteed in a democratic country like ours. We demand that full scale investigation be made to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice. The group however, condemns the infiltration of the peaceful protest by miscreants leading to wanton destruction of public and private properties across the nation.

“We therefore call on the president Muhammadu Buhari to immediately direct an end to these wanton killings across our nation as the protection of lives and properties of Nigeria rest on his shoulder”, it read.

#EndSARS: Gov Wike sacks IPOB from Rivers State over massive violence and destruction

A STATE-WIDE BROADCAST REINFORCING THE PROSCRIPTION OF IPOB IN RIVERS STATE

BY
GOVERNOR NYESOM WIKE, CON, GSSRS, POS
23rd OCTOBER 2020.

My Dear Good People of Rivers State,

2. The Rivers State Government views with serious concern the unending destructive activities of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples Organization of Biafra (IPOB) in Rivers State.

3. Recall that the IPOB was classified as a terrorist organization by the Federal High Court and subsequently proscribed in September 2017 by the Federal Government.

4. However, despite its ban, the group has continued to operate in parts of the country, including Rivers State in furtherance of its alien political objectives.

5. Since its proscription, the group has carried out intermittent processions in parts of Rivers State, especially in Oyigbo and some notorious suburbs in Port Harcourt Local Government Areas.

6. More often than not, these illegal processions have become regular occasions for armed IPOB members to disturb the peace of the State by unleashing violence and destruction on lives and property at will.

7. The Rivers State Government had severally pleaded, warned and even advised IPOB and its members to discontinue its insurrectional actions in Rivers State to no avail.

8. Instead, we were all witnesses to yet, another orgy of violence and destruction inflicted by IPOB at Oyigbo Local Government Area and some parts of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area on Tuesday 21st October 2020.

9. This evil, wicked and audacious action resulted in the unnecessary loss of scores of lives, including soldiers and police officers, and the destruction of both public and private properties, including police stations, court buildings and business premises.

10. Not done, they also visited physical violence on members of some targeted community which, but, for the quick intervention of the State Government and the security agencies, would have resulted in some form of internecine bloodbath in the State.

11. Today, IPOB continued with its devilish and destructive activities at Rumukwurushi, Iriebe and Oyigbo in open defiance of the State Government’s curfew on human movements.

12. Security intelligence and surveillance have revealed that IPOB has continued to expand its membership drive, holding meetings regularly, and expanding its logistical base, including the maintenance of illegal detention cells in Emenike and other parts of Diobu, Port Harcourt.

13. As a matter of fact, Oyigbo town has practically become the group’s main operational base in Rivers State, from which they’ve become notorious for launching premeditated violence and terror on the State, businesses and innocent citizens.

14. As a people, we have become very much unsettled by the terrorist acts and endured the continuing irritations, violence, destruction and provocations of IPOB in and against the people of Rivers State.

15. We agree that Rivers State is part of Nigeria and has always been a home for all Nigerians and will continue to be because this is our true character.

16. But it must also be understood that Rivers State belongs to the indigenous people of Rivers State.

17. As a stranger element with strange political ideology therefore, IPOB has no legal or moral right to invade Rivers State or any part therefore at its behest; to disturb public peace; and subject lives and property to violence or threat of destruction under any guise.

18. What is clear from this behaviour is that our love, accommodation and hospitality towards all are being mistaken for weakness by the banned IPOB.

19. This being so, the time has come for us to sound this notice of warning that: enough is enough!!! We can no longer tolerate this IPOB evil monster in Rivers State. Never.

20. As a Government, we owe our people and all residents the responsibility to protect their lives, property and wellbeing and to prevent trouble-makers of all shades and character from violating our collective peace, security and pursuit of happiness.

21. Therefore, in view of the fact that IPOB has since been proscribed throughout Nigeria; and

22. Having come to the firm conclusion that the activities of the banned IPOB are not just dangerous to lives and property but also constitute clear and present threat to the existential interest and aspirations of Rivers State and all our people;

23. We have decided to reinforce, implement and enforce the existing judicial and national ban on IPOB by putting a total and complete stop to its presence and or activities in Rivers State or any part thereof.

24. Accordingly, as from today 23rd October 2020, the Rivers State Government has:

[ ] (ii) Outlawed IPOB from existing and or operating in Rivers State or any part thereof in line with the proscription order of the Federal High Court and the Federal Government.

(ii) No form of procession and or agitation by IPOB or any of its affiliates is allowed to take place in Rivers State or any part thereof, hence forth.

(iii) Security agencies are hereby directed to stop any form of procession or agitation by IPOB in Rivers State or any part thereof and arrest and prosecute any person or group that identifies with the membership or activities of IPOB in the State;

(iv) Government will issue an executive order to strengthen and ensure the effective enforcement of these measures;

(v) I will be meeting with all leaders of youth groups and community development committees in the State on Monday 26th October 2020 to take wholistic measures to counter and stop all IPOB activities in Rivers State;

(vi) Mr. Stanley Mgbere from Onne is hereby declared wanted for leading members of the banned IPOB to cause the recent violence and destruction of lives and property in Onne in Eleme Local Government Area; and

(vii) A ransom of N50,000,000.00 will be given to any person with useful information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of the said Mr. Stanley Mgbere.

25. I wish to appeal to the people of Oyigbo Local Government Area to remain calm and not to take the laws into their hands despite the intense provocation as government has the capacity to deal with the challenge and ensure the safety of lives and property in the Local Government Area.

26. We will soon carry out on the spot inspection and assessment of the destruction they have suffered and take appropriate measures to mitigate the loss and damage caused to lives and property.

27. We hereby express our sympathies to the families of all those that have either lost their loved ones or suffered damages to their properties from the destructive acts of IPOB in our State.

28. Be assured that they have not died in vain and we will do everything within our powers to give all the victims justice.

29. We appeal to leaders of the various ethnic groups residents in the State to ensure that their members respect the sensibilities of our people and refrain from provocations and acts of hooliganism that could breach peace and security in the State.

30. Finally, I wish to assure all Nigerians that Rivers State will continue to be the home for all tribes as we will not shirk in our responsibility to ensure the peace, security and happiness of all residents in Rivers State.

31. We cannot allow IPOB miscreants and other misguided similar groups to threaten our collective peace, security and wellbeing under whatever guise.

32. Thank you and may God continue to bless Rivers State.

#EndSARS: Ikpeazu inaugurates committee to ascertain level of destruction

…calls on Abia youth to submit business proposals for possible government sponsorship

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has officially inaugurated a 12-man committee to ascertain the level of damage to private and public infrastructure arising from the recent protests by Nigerian youths in the State.

The committee has the Commissioner for Special Duties, Chief Chimaobi Ebisike, as Chairman.

Inaugurating the committee at Government House, Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu spelt out the terms of reference of the committee to include ascertaining the root causes of the destruction of public and private infrastructure in the State during the #EndSARS protest, to enumerate public and private properties destroyed or vandalized during the protest, to evaluate financial losses arising from the said destruction and how government can pay compensations where possible as well as advise government on possible ways of averting future occurrences.

The Governor equally urged the committee to make recommendations on how the destroyed properties can be rebuilt within the shortest possible time and to do everything necessary or incidental to the actualisation of the mandate.

The State Chief Executive said that the recent events necessitated the constitution of the committee, which he said has 12 weeks to turn in its report.

Governor Ikpeazu, who charged the committee members to explore ways through which to engage the youths in a constructive manner, disclosed that he is embarking on another local government elections in the State to underscore the importance of youth inclusion in Governance.

He explained that elections at the council levels provide opportunities for youths to participate as officials either as elected persons or appointees and urged Abia youths to submit proposals on their choice of businesses for sponsorship by the state government.

The Governor said that his administration has done a lot to provide job opportunities for the youths in the State including changing the narratives in artisanship/entrepreneurship in Aba and Abia as a whole, and ongoing efforts in establishing automated shoe factory in the State, all targeted at the youths.

He also recalled government efforts at the general promotion of Made-in-Aba products and establishment of SME Bank for Micro and Medium entrepreneurs among others.

Governor Ikpeazu said that cottage industries are being established currently in the State starting with 7 LGAs, adding that the machines for the industries are already on ground from India.

Other members of the Committee include Aaron Iyke, Comrade Frank Eme Orji, Engr. Sunday Okpara, Dr Ugochukwu Onyeonoro, Chief Jerry Kalu, Mr Ugwumba Adiele, Mr Chris Nwanevo, Mr. O. J. Bob Amanze, Mr Okechukwu Osuoha, Mrs. Joy Iwuchukwu and CSP Emeka Ubani

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, chairman of the committee, Chief Chimaobi Ebisike thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve the State through the assignment, and promised “to meet up with the expectations of government and the good people of Abia”.

Among other government functionaries present at the inauguration was the Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu.

#EndSARS: Enugu Youths begin massive cleaning of city

Following the destruction of property and brigandage in Enugu metropolis, youths in Enugu State have organised themselves to clean up and reorganise the city.

The cleaning, which is being championed by Hon Chima Obieze, the lawmaker representing Ezeagu State Constituency for the state, began today, 23rd October, 2020.

The cleaning exercise according to a publication made available to Jungle Journalist Media Ltd continues tomorrow, and invites all youths in the city to be part of it.

Take off point is Presidential Hotel, at 9 am, he said.

He enjoined all young men and women to join the city clearing exercise, and not allow hoodlums take over and destroy the city and the state in general.

Eholor condemns violence, looting, hijack of #EndSARS struggle by Nnamdi Kanu, says Buhari’s speech uninspiring

With reports of violence, looting and destruction of properties across Nigeria due to the unrest caused by the #ENDSARS protest, the Global President of One Love Foundation, Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor has condemned it describing the situation as unfortunate and regrettable.

Eholor in a media chat in Benin City, said he also observed with dismay the hijacking of the protest by irresponsible and divisive elements like the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu whose utterances and unguided vituperation led to vandalization of properties, thuggery and looting of both government and private properties in disguise of protest across Nigeria.
Over 10 police stations were burnt down across the nation

“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu cannot come in disguise to hijack the genuine #endsars protest. We will not allow him to do that. People fought for one Nigeria. We are going to remain one Nigeria. Our problem is not about tribe or ethnicity. Our problem is about bad leadership. Now the people have finally wake up to say they want their right because their right is their life. That’s what we should focus on not on Nnamdi Kanu. For me, I don’t take him serious. If you’re a serious person who wants to agitate for your people you should be here for the struggle just like as I am here for the struggle. That’s what they call a patriot and a democrat. Kanu is just a rabble-rouser.”

“It’s most imperative to note that, I supports in all sincerity the betterment of Nigeria especially with governance as agitated for by the youths, but it is quite unfortunate that unscrupulous elements including those outside the country are making inciting and divisive statements, thereby hijacking the process to unleash mayhem and anarchy by creating unnecessary pandemonium.

“Following the unfortunate event of the Leeki shootings on unarmed #ENDSARS protesters which was condemned by all including myself, as I share in the plights and grievances of the youths especially those that lost their lives, but it’s inhumane and barbaric to destroy properties of individuals and government as witnessed across the country.”

“The youths should embrace dialogue or continue protesting in a peaceful and civil manner like I did at the US Embassy. Destruction of properties won’t give us the needed results.”

On President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s speech yesterday, Eholor said the speech was boring, uninspiring and unpresidential.

“At a time like this, I expected the President to act like a father by bringing the youths to a round table. As usual, it was uninspiring an boring. Lives were lost due to the Lekki shootings and the President failed to say a word on it.”

The Whisperer

Wike: The Gunshots Persist, by Odimegwu Onwumere

Your Excellency, The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike. Greetings, Sir.

I come to you again with a heart full of tears after my earlier open letter to you begging of you to oversee to the motiveless shootings in parts of Rivers State to immobility. Within hours of that letter, the tears of residents have gone up than they were especially in a place like Oyigbo.

We are inundated with information from residents of that area that they doubt if the unjustifiable shootings are really those from the security agents or some external intruders are using the opportunity to cash in and take over Oyigbo.

Many of the residents have fled their homes. Please, for the sympathy of the living, do make peace. This is more than the alleged hoodlums taking over the #EndSARS protest but something is fishing out from the cupboard concerning the fate of Oyigbo in this time of uncertainties.

Rivers residents – whether born natives or visitors – cannot afford to lose any part of Rivers state to any tribe, whose sole aim is to cleanse a people and occupy their ancestral homes. Some information from a place like Rumukwurushi is that there is a particular people who are guarded by those who were supposed to protect all; and the people are hiding under the cover of the protection they enjoy unleashing mayhem on the residents of Rumukwurushi. The same is applicable to Oyigbo.

Sir, you might not notice what is happening across the state at the same time except for such information like this. You have to try to save the state that you love from falling in the hands of a people who never meant well for us. You have to read history from ancient gallery and stop the neo-ethnic cleansing that is well written bold on the wall in guise of #EndSARS protest.

In a plain language, sir, Oyigbo without a doubt has fallen in the hands of wrong people while many still believe that the gunshots were only from the security agents. No. You need to act now else every genuine person living in Oyigbo and some parts of Port Harcourt will wake up from memories’ grave. It would be sacrilegious that we are dead in Rivers state while our homes are taken over by the cold-blooded killers.

In war, it is certain that the end will come but ordinary people are not certain of surviving that long. I am not pointing finger at any person but no man would stand and watch his enemies hide under the cover of security agents to unleash terror for the purpose of either vendetta or land grabbing. And if you don’t act now, parts of Rivers state may be in the hands of the enemies yet we misconstrue the gunshots as those from the ‘genuine’ security agents. Let the year 2020 not be the year we are regressing back to 1700 when lords governed fiefdoms. Someone might not be a robber but if such a person goes to the bank like a robber, he or she would be labeled a robber.

Some persons have dressed like robbers in Rivers state. They don’t care to know that time of acquiring territories by force is gone and we cannot afford to stand on the shadow of the keep. Our state cannot be taken over by force, by any tribe. You need not fold your hands because there will be no excuses and no exceptions should these shootings persist. Watch if the enemies are close, hiding under the #EndSARS brouhaha.

Your Excellency, it would be better that I slap your face with words today in lieu of you waking up tommorrow and notice that your grandparents graves have become home for people who did not buy them from you and who do not mean well to you, either.
There are screams and cry ongoing in a place like Oyigbo. It is not too late to check who are causing the residents of that area to cry. The residents can barely breathe. Don’t allow the door to slam against the wall.

The presence of heavy security men in Oyigbo and in some parts of Rivers state is not a shield. Gunshots are locating the residents more that the presence of the security agents could protect them. This has spurred my suspicion if the town has not fallen in the hands of enemies to kill as many residents as possible while we presume all happening are part of the wave from the #EndSARS uproar oblivious that some people with ulterior motive are bent to take our ancestral land.

The door is open to bring about the needed peace which that part of the state facing heavy presence of gunshots need. How can a people’s right be intruded? The language of gun is not smooth. Let the soldiers not make the residents believe that they are the injured party whereas the residents cannot tell for sure where the sporadic gunshots are coming from and the military Code of Conduct is not observed.

Sane soldiers do not wave unlocked gun recklessly in the midst of civilians. Unguided bullets flying everywhere. Sir, the language of gun is not smooth, not a political agenda. Therefore it is time you introduced and enforced basic human rights this time. Residents cannot afford to walk in their underwear and none knows it were intruders greeting them in the language of gun.

Yes. Oyigbo might not be a city but there are a people who see her as paradise. So, make sure you find out why farmers cannot go to farm because their crops are eaten by human-guided-animals and they are killed if they complain. The same thing is happening to every resident under the #EndSARS hijacked-show-of-shame.

Your Excellency, the grumbling across the state is getting out of hand. Maybe, you have to walk the towns if your security intelligence was not seeing too well. No legitimate child deserves to be called an infidel in his paternal home. The gunshots in Oyigbo are irritating pretense that Rivers state is still in the #EndSARS era. Some people have taken over that era flaunting dangerous folly. I had no difficulty in restraining myself but had to write you in order to stop this stupid importance it has become to a people to desert residents with gunshots at the Haunting Hour which is now their bloody manifesto.

HOW ENDSARS PROTEST WAS HIJACKED; MISDIRECTED, PRESIDENT BUHARI TELLS FORMER HEADS OF STATE

It is unfortunate that the initial genuine and well-intended protest of youths in parts of the country against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was hijacked and misdirected, President Muhammadu Buhari told former Heads of State and Presidents of Nigeria, Friday in Abuja.

In a virtual meeting with the former leaders, President Buhari reiterated that the Government will not fold its arms and allow miscreants and criminals continue to perpetrate acts of hooliganism in the country.

At the meeting were all living past leaders, including: Gen. Yakubu Gowon, President Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Chief Ernest Shonekan, Gen. Abulsalami Abubakar, and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The President recounted the initial concessions made by his administration on the demands of youths protesting against the excesses of some members of the SARS.

He recalled that the youths had demanded that the squad be disbanded, and further articulated the additional demands, including:

”The immediate release of all arrested protesters.

”Justice for deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families.

”Setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of Police misconduct within 10 days.

”Psychological evaluation and re-training of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be re-deployed; and increase in Police salary.”

The President declared: ”We accepted all the demands and proceeded immediately to scrap SARS and started the process of addressing the other demands.

”Unfortunately, the protesters refused to call off the protest and engage the Government to address their grievances. Instead, they became emboldened and gradually turned violent.”

President Buhari expressed concern that in the mayhem that ensued, many lives have been lost, a number of public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalized.

Reiterating his pledge to Nigerians from the nationwide broadcast Thursday, the President reaffirmed:

”We will continue to improve good governance through our democratic process including through sustained engagement.

”We shall also continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected. Here, I want to also reaffirm our commitment to preserving the unity of this country.”

The President thanked the former Heads of State for attending the meeting and their invaluable comments, observations and advice, adding that ”Nigerians expect nothing less from responsible statesmen.”

Each of the former leaders commended President Buhari for steps taken so far to restore calm and order to the country and also applauded the presidential broadcast of Thursday as detailed and soothing to the country.

”I commend the speech of last night. The nation had been waiting. You made points that I believe need to be commended. Peaceful demonstration is part of democratic practice. The demands of the genuine protesters were accepted, and you are working on implementation. We commend you,” former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, said.

The former heads of state were unanimous in their view that generation of employment and growing the economy including through direct foreign investments were critical to checking youth restiveness.

They also expressed their condolences to the bereaved families of civilians, policemen and soldiers killed as a result of the violent protest, and reaffirmed the commitment to respect the fundamental rights of citizens, including for peaceful protest as enshrined in the Constitution.

The former Heads of State also condemned the divisive and inciting pronouncements of separatists, and were of the opinion that such acts should be stopped.

Equally, the former Leaders commended the actions taken by Governors to address the demands of the ENDSARS protesters and their efforts to check the excesses of those who perpetrated violent acts and conduct.

Finally, they called on youths to pursue peaceful means, in seeking redress through engagement with Government and encouraged further conversation with the youths and other stakeholders in the country.

A rabblerouser like Nnamdi Kanu cannot hijack our genuine struggle for a new Nigeria – Patrick Osagie Eholor

Says, ‘We will flush out all the bad leaders’

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu cannot come in disguise to hijack the genuine #endsars protest. Kanu is just a rabble-rouser.

You reap what you sow. Tinubu has not been a good person. He is finally reaping what he sowed. He is not the only thief we have. But the problem we always have in Nigeria is about ethnicity. When we were pursuing Abacha, the northerners would say “is it only Abacha that stole?” A thief is a thief. Tinubu is a thief. He has been taking money and milking the Nigeria citizens. That’s what has finally caught up with him. I have no sympathy for him. And don’t forget that most of these people are going to pay a very severe price especially for those who are there now who have not condemned the justification of the military shooting the unarmed civilians (at the Lekki Toll Gate).

Let me tell you, Nigeria is going to be a pacesetter because the world is watching Nigeria. I can assure you the commander, President or whoever gave the order(to shoot) because soldier doesn’t shoot without order. They are all going to the Hague. The International Criminal Court of Justice(ICCJ) and they are going to spend time with Charles Taylor(former Liberian President) and other notorious criminals who are already there (in jail). That’s going to be their last vacation point. Believe me. It is never going to be business as usual.

Let me come back and focus on Edo State. We saw Governor Godwin Obaseki and his security team patrolling everywhere which is commendable. It is good for our safety. Most of the soldiers are zombies same with the police. That’s why we want the police to be reformed. So, Obaseki patrolling the town with security agents cannot solve the problem. We don’t want the massacre that happened in Lekki to happen in Edo State. What he should do is to engage the people, not through Crusoe Osagie(the Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy to the Edo State Governor). We don’t need Crusoe to talk to us. We need the man we voted for to come and address the people. You will see the likes of Donald Trump who has issues with Americans, taxation, election rigging, Chinese, Covid-19 etc still address the press on a daily basis. When was the last time Godwin Obaseki addressed the press? There is what they call Meet the Press when you have to talk to the press and the press have to transmit what you are saying to the citizens to them. I am not the governor of this state but I speak more than the governor authoritatively.

Yesterday, I had a confrontation with the military men. They were going to whip me and I said they cannot do that as they’re going to repeat what happened in Lekki here. Soldiers are supposed to defend our sovereignty. They’re not supposed to police us. Police are supposed to police the people and the people are supposed to police the police. That’s the right thing in an ideal society. But because we have lost it here we don’t know what we’re doing. Thank God that finally we are going to flush out all the bad leaders. We don’t have environmental disasters. What we have over time is leadership disaster. Now, people are ready to take back power because power belongs to the people.

Movement of Biafrans In Nigeria (MOBIN) condemns senseless destruction of property, calls for restraint

The Movement of Biafrans In Nigeria (MOBIN) has appealed to youths across Baifra land to end the wanton destruction of property and brigandage ongoing in the country.

MOBIN in a terse statement noted that Nigerians and Biafrans alike should channel their energies towards a more proactive engagements with the authorities, instead of subjecting the entire population to untold hardship.

MOBIN also frowned at the numerous killings that have been witnessed by citizens in the hands of security operatives, especially the ones perpetrated by SARS policemen.

It condemned the killing of protesters in Lagos, but added that unless restraint is exercised, Biafrans and Nigerians will soon begin to turn against each other, without really harming the political class who are responsible for the sufferings in the country.

MOBIN appealed to the youths to listen to the voice of reason, leave the streets, and get ready to engage the authorities, using legal and diplomatic methods.

“Our voices have been heard loud and clear. At no time have we ever come out united like this in the history of this cluntry. But let’s not completely destroy what we have built ourselves. What we are destroying were built by individuals, through sweat and hard work.

“We have presented the Restructuring documents to the National Assembly, and they must attend to it.
It is the Biafran Ideology. Restructure Nigeria now to Regional Autonomy. Every Region to govern itself and develop at its own pace. Every Region to have its own Police.
We have told them that we must restructure and save Nigeria now otherwise Nigeria will disintegrate into oblivion”, it ended.

Normalcy returns to Enugu, as Chima Obieze leads youths through streets clearing(PHOTOS)

The streets of Enugu metropolis is gradually returning to normalcy, with youths in the city clearing the roads and streets.

The last few days have been quite challenging for residents, with hoodlums pulling down bus stop facilities and dustbins to block roads. They also set up bonfires and forced motorists to give them money in order to pass.

But the youths this morning, have been going from road to road, clearing off the debris.

Hon Chima Obieze, representing Ezeagu State Constituency told our reporter on the telephone that destruction is not the way to go “We have mobilised all the youth organisations in the city and are calling on all other youths to come out and join us. We are clearing the city and we are bent on returning to normal life.

“Enugu residents should go about their businesses and fear nothing. This is a call to everyone, please clear up any debris on your street. Let’s all join hands”, he said.

Reports from across the city indicated that parts of New Haven, Otigba, Presidential Road, and the Enugu Abakaliki Expressway have all been cleared. Also, New Artisan Market and environs are currently being cleared.

Also, security operatives have also been posted to flash points like Abakpa and Polo/Shoprite areas to checkmate the situation.

Eye witnesses who spoke with Jungle Journalist Media Limited confirmed that shops are beginning to open, especially around Abakpa, and vehicular movement have resumed.
