Steer clear of Edo guber polls, Edo Indigenes warn Tinubu, Wike, Ganduje, Okowa, Ruggedman, Edrees Abdulkareem, others

The umbrella body of Edo Indigenes, Edo Indigenous Movement aka (EPIA)has cautioned non Indigenes of Edo state to steer clear completely from the governorship elections of Edo state.

In its reaction to a song attributed to Ruggedman and Eedrees Abdulkareem, where they attacked Governor Godwin Obaseki, EPIA said that Edo elections is a family affair and as such, non Edo people must learn to stay away and let Edo people decide who their next governor will be.

Chief (Bishop) Omogiade Enoyiogiere Edokpolo, who is the founder of EPIA made this position know to newsmen in Benin City.

He listed some governors and other prominent politicians who had made one or two comments about the elections, warning them never to interfere, as it’s none of their business.

He argued; “Let Edo Indigenes and citizens determine who leads them. The idea of non Indigenes fueling issues in our governorship elections is completely unacceptable.

“The idea of Ruggedman, Edrees Abdulkareem, Governors Nyesom Wike of River State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Chief Bola Tinubu, Governor Ganduje of Kano, interfering in the elections is an aberration. Let Edo Indigenes handle their matters. Edo people are capable of deciding who will be their governor, and after the elections, a winner will emerge, and all Edo Indigenes will come back together as one. The idea of one interfering in these matters and fueling negative comments is not going to be tolerated by Edo Indigenous people.

“We are not fighting war in Edo, it’s just an election, and we will come together again. So non Indigenes, it’s a family affair and you should stay away”, he said.

Edo Indigenous Movement rates guber candidates, tasks voters on manifestoes, antecedents

Founder, Edo Progressives Indigenous Assembly(EPIA), Chief (Bishop) Omogiade Enoyiogiere Edokpolo has charged eligible voters to give details to the manifestoes and previous records of those currently jostle to be governor of the state come September 19 as basis for making their choice.

The non- partisan group, founded in 2014 with the sole aim to promote amongst others, Edo indigenous language, cultural heritage and empowerment said the governorship candidates agenda constitute a major determinant to evaluate their ability to deliver the dividends of democracy to Edo people .

“We think both candidates, although there are others in the race are all Edo prominent indigenes, they have the technical know-how on how to pilot the affairs of the state. We are puting it before Edo indigenes to go and look at their manifestoes and check their previous records to determine who they will vote for,” he noted.

Edokpolor who condemned the shootings, attacks, violent clashes by suspected party thugs in the last few weeks, heaped the blame at the door of political parties in the state.

Drawing a comparative appraisal between the two contending lead candidates, Edokpolor said though the group has no preexisting records on the APC Governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu but that judging from his presentations, synergies and the ways Edo people rally round him “chances are that he will be able to come up with something credible in line with his Simple Agenda”.

On Governor Godwin Obaseki, he posited “I think he has done well in terms of international investors and digital development attraction to the state including some infrastructure. But he has done very little or less in indigenous empowerment programmes and above all, he needs to be more in touch and accessible to the indigenes because we are native people and not English.

“On that note we score him 6.2 over 10 (62 percent) and hope if he wins that he will do better in this area. I think that is the only reason he is having much pressure now in campaign, otherwise he is supposed win with zero effort” .

EPIA president said the incoming governor must cultivate the habit of dressing the way of Edo people including periodic appraisal of his manifestoes .

“How can a man show love to people he does not even dress like not to talk about speaking their language? ,” he asked.

Chinese Tecno phones with built-in malware that steals users’ data on sale in Africa

Malware which signed users up to subscription services without their permission has been found on thousands of mobiles sold in Africa.

Anti-fraud firm Upstream found the malicious code on 53,000 Tecno handsets, sold in Ethiopia, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana and South Africa.

Manufacturer Transsion told Buzzfeed it was installed in the supply chain without its knowledge.

Upstream said it was taking advantage of the “most vulnerable”.

“The fact that the malware arrives pre-installed on handsets that are bought in their millions by typically low-income households tells you everything you need to know about what the industry is currently up against,” said Geoffrey Cleaves, head of Upstream’s Secure-D platform.

The Triada malware found by the firm on the Android smartphones installs malicious code known as xHelper which then finds subscription services and submits fraudulent requests on behalf of users, doing so invisibly and without the user’s knowledge.

If the request is successful, it consumes pre-paid airtime, the only way to pay for digital services in many developing countries.

In total, Upstream found what it described as “suspicious activity” on more than 200,000 Tecno smartphones.

According to research firm IDC, Transsion Holdings is one of China’s leading phone manufacturers and in Africa it is the top-selling mobile manufacturer.

In response Tecno Mobile said that the issue was “an old and solved mobile security issue globally” to which it issued a fix in March 2018.

“For current W2 consumers that are potentially facing Triada issues now, they are highly recommended to download the over-the-air fix through their phone for installation or contact Tecno’s after-sales service support for assistance in any questions,” the firm told the BBC in a statement.

It added that it is attached “great importance to consumers’ data security and product safety”.

“Every single software installed on each device runs through a series of rigorous security checks, such as our own security scan platform,” it added.

At the beginning of the year, security firm Malwarebytes warned that similar pre-installed apps were found on another Chinese Android phone – the UMX U686CL. This handset was offered to low-income families in the US via a government scheme.

And in 2016, researcher Ryan Johnson found that more than 700 million Android smartphones had malware installed.

Google, which developed the Android operating system, is aware of the issue.

In a blog written last year it blamed third-party vendors, used by manufacturers to install features such as face unlock, for pre-installing Triada malware.

It said it had worked with manufacturers to remove the threat from devices.

EBONYI 2023: Prophet Emmanuel Chukwudi warns Senator Sam Egwu, other Ebonyi leaders, says Umahi is God’s anointed

The General overseer of King of Kings Deliverance Ministry, Gbonum Ulepa Ntezi, Ebonyi State, Prophet Emmanuel Chukwudi has issued a note of warning against former governors of the state and other leaders, particularly Senator Sam Egwu.

Chukwudi told Jungle Journalist Media Limited, Ebonyi State Correspondent in Abakaliki Wednesday afternoon that the leaders have gathered and are conspiring to decide who the next governor will be, even though Governor Dave Umahi is still in power.

“These men and holding clandestine, evil meetings against God’s anointed, and they want to take decisions about the future of Ebonyi State without Umahi”, he started.

“That’s never going to happen. The battle of 2023 has just begun in Ebonyi state. I saw former governors conspiring against Governor Umahi because they are afraid he is going to present a new governorship candidate for 2023, and so, they are fighting him tooth and nail to make sure that he fails in producing his successor. They want to bring the successor themselves.

“It’s a high level conspiracy, but the almighty God is telling me that God is with him, and no one can fight God’s anointed and go free. No one can counter the will of God. Those who conspired against Umahi, because they think they will be the ones to produce a new governor that will succeed he, they will fail woefully.

“In the spirit realm, it is in the governor’s hands that God has placed the leadership of Ebonyi State. They want to fight him and take the anointing from him, but it can’t work. When God says his time is up, thy can come in. But for now, Sam Egwu and other past leaders of Ebonyi must bow to God’s anointed, because others also bowed to the, when God anointed them”, he ended.

Abia@ 29: Ours is Bittersweet Experience, Says Prof. Ibe

The Chancellor and Founder Gregory University Uturu has congratulated the government and people of the state over the 29th anniversary of the state’s creation.

Prof. Ibe described the 29th anniversary as ‘bittersweet’, ‘a period the state like other parts of the world is ravaged by COVID-19 pandemic’ .

The educationist made this assertion in a message made available to Jungle Journalist Media Ltd. He regretted the deaths caused by the pandemic, and prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead.

Ibe urged Abia indigenes across the world to join hands with the government in moving the state forward.

His words, “On this unique historic commemoration of the 29th Anniversary of the creation of Abia State, I wish to join millions of our people worldwide in appreciating the Almighty God, first for inspiring the divine conception and strategic birth of this geographical entity prophetically christened Gods own State, and then for upholding the indigenes and residents in the hollow of his awesomely safe hands these past years.

“Each time we mark the anniversary of the creation of our dear state, it presents us yet another indispensable opportunity of recalling and reminiscing on the patriotic labors of our Heroes past and the sacrificial milestones of our Founding Fathers who meritoriously laid the strategic landmarks that distinguish us as a unique people on the solid and unshakeable blocks of equity and justice.

“The 29th stanza of our celebration can best be described as a bittersweet experience since it comes within the unprecedented season of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Indeed it is a season that is characterized by sweetness on one hand, occasioned by the anniversary celebration, and bitterness on the other, prompted by the ravaging pandemic. For a few Abians, it is a season replete with tragedy and woes, with many narrowly escaping death by whiskers while others were not as lucky since their life got cut shot by the virus. While praying for the repose of the souls of the departed, I join my prayers with the faithful in appreciating God for sparing our lives, even as we all relentlessly intercede for divine protection and continuous sustenance of our dear State.

“While sending sweet incense of thanksgiving, ovation and jubilation to the God of Abia for benevolently sparing, renewing and strengthening our Governor and Leader, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, especially during these perilous times, I hereby call on Abians and indeed all men of goodwill to rally concerted efforts and support for the attainment of a great Abia, even as we all “with open face” behold the emergence of that truly egalitarian state which our revered Founding Fathers envisioned from the beginning.

“Congratulations Abians!God Bless Abia!!God Bless Nigeria!”
