The Equity and Justice Group of Ishienu Amofu community, in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State have carried out a protest, where they categorically rejected the candidacy of Mr Christian Agu, whom they accused the President General of the community, Mr Ndubuisi Anih of illegally imposing on them through an unapproved election.
To this end, the Coordinator of Equity and Justice Group, Mr Matthew Onyeabor while speaking during the protest, said that since the death of the last Igwe, Royal Highness Igwe Peter Onuoha, who was murdered in 2013, no other person has been selected or elected to reign over the Ishienu Amofu people.
According to him, Mr Christian Agu reached an unholy pact with Mr Anih, where Anih promised to hand him the Igweship title on a platter, if only he would help return him as the PG of the community. This, he did, by altering the Constitution, defying the elders, holding an illegal Igweship election and finally declaring Christian Agu an Igwe, even when no election was held to the knowledge of the community.
His words “the PG noticed that he was going to lose the election for his second term as PG, and he went to Agu and said, you support me as PG, and I will make you Igwe. They agreed.
“They had their internal arrangements. Once the PG won the election, he immediately swung into action and conducted a caricature election. As I am talking to you, the matter is already in court. Our petitions have reached the table of the executive governor and we know that he has been listening to us, because if he is not listening to us, he may have imposed the man on us before now. But we are happy to thank him to keep doing what he is doing. What we don’t want is for anybody to imposed anybody on us in the name of Igwe”, Onyeabor declared.
