FCT Minister Nyesom Wike recently replied to a protest organised by activists Deji Adeyanju and Martins Vincent Otse (VDM), who criticised him for demolishing structures at the Ruga colony on Airport Road in Abuja.
During the rally, protestors dubbed Wike a “land grabber,” accusing him of unfairly stealing their property.
However, in a video shown by Symfoni TV, Wike addressed the residents whose homes had been demolished. He emphasised that the government had sent 22 warnings to the people to quit the area, but they ignored them. Wike refuted claims of land grabs, claiming that the area in question was government-owned. He questioned how the government could be accused of stealing land it already owned.
According to the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, he stated, “The federal government came here 22 times to tell you to leave this place. You didn’t leave. Instead, you brought people who don’t want the government to make progress and you went on television to call us land grabbers. How can we be land grabbers on land that belongs to us? Can you steal what is already yours?”
