Nigeria’s first privately owned games village, accredited by CAF and FIFA, Rojenny Games Village, Oba is under threat of being wiped out by heavy flooding.
According to Jungle-Journalist.Com correspondent who visited the scene, heavy flooding, which is taking its toll on the Onitsha – Owerri expressway has been eroding the road and running into the dual gates of the games village. At the time of filing this report, the water was sighted rushing into the compound of the sports centre.
According to a resident who spoke with Jungle-Journalist.Com, the flood had been diverted into the road and in turn, had found it’s way into the sports centre, thereby, threatening to wreck havoc and destroy the place.
The CEO of Rojenny Games Village, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, while speaking with our correspondent, appealed to the Anambra State government as well as the Federal Government to intervene and save the situation.
His words “this flood is entering into Rojenny, threatening to wipe out the entire village. This is because of the flooding on Owerri road, and this flooding was diverted to enter Rojenny.
“It has pulled all the walls, it has damaged tartan tracks, the entire Rojenny village is about to be wiped out. This is the condition of what is happening now.
“There is palpitating fear that the only stadium that serves the entire South East, especially Nnewi and Onitsha and environs, the only CAF and FIFA – approved stadium is about to be wiped out by flooding and erosion.
“This is a call for help. I call on the federal government, and the Anambra State government, the international community and other good – spirited individuals to come to our aid over this facility, to prevent it’s prevalent destruction by flood”, he stated.
