Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for Nkanu East State Constituency in the forthcoming Enugu State House of Assembly elections, Michael Emmanuel Onu has said that infrastructural development, human capital index, and advancement in mechanised agriculture are key issues he will focus on, if elected to serve the people.
Onu said this in Mgbanaocha, Nkerefi community, while inspecting ongoing work at a bad portion of the Agbani – Ugbawka- Nara-Nkerefi road, which has been neglected by the government.
The House of Assembly hopeful who commissioned workers to fix the portion, said his reasons for contesting to represent Nkanu-East is because he has acquired the experience to serve, and knows exactly what to do in order to give the people quality representation.
His words “one of the fundamental reasons I am vying for the position is to strongly establish the constitutional authority of Legislative Oversight.
“Moreover, legislative oversight encompasses hearings in which legislatures are authorized to hold state ministries, parastatals or agencies accountable.
“Am also running to sponsor and co-sponsor a series of bills to impove the life of people of Enugu State, specifically Nkanu-East citizens. I will not be a lame duck member of the House of Assembly. One of the bills will be deep-rooted on Human Development Index (HDI) such as education (STEM), healthcare, and improving standard of living (healthy lifestyle).
“Thirdly, we must establish a mechanized agriculture, for example, to create jobs for the people and improve state earning through taxation.”
Michael Emmanuel Onu who hails from Mburubu community, is a PhD Student/Candidate in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security, United States of America.
He has worked with the best legislative body in the world, the United States of America Congress, and gained experience working with people like Jamie Raskin.
