Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has asked that the Kwara State governor, Abdulrahaman Abdurazaq retract his claims that he (Saraki) embezzled the Universal Basic Education (UBEC) Fund when he was governor of the state.
Saraki, a two-term governor of Kwara State said the accusation by the incumbent governor of the state that he embezzled UBEC funds during his tenure is false.
Saraki in a statement signed by his press officer on local matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, has given the governor an ultimatum of seven days to retract the claims or meet him in court.
The former senate president said he has put up with the lies for long and he is ready to take legal action if Abdurazaq doesn’t retract the claims.
Recall that the Kwara State governor on Sunday during the inauguration of the campaign council of the APC senatorial candidate for Kwara Central accused Saraki of embezzling UBEC funds and also using his position as senate president then to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating the case.
However, the former governor described the claims as an outright lie the governor must retract immediately.
Saraki stated that “I have ignored all his lies all this while as I believe he was resorting to that cheap escape measure to mask his failure in governance. Now, I will have to take strong measures by challenging him in court since he will not desist from fabricating lies against me.
“I have told my lawyers to write him to retract the statement or be ready to prove it in court.”
