Oshiomole’s ward chairman insists he remains suspended

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etsako Ward 10, Mr. Oshawo Stephen, has dismissed claims that the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as a member of the party has been lifted, insisting that the ward executives stand by their suspension of the erstwhile National Chairman of the APC.

In a statement, Mr. Stephen said the ward executives who were elected into office in 2018 remain intact and have not been displaced by anybody, describing the claims of the lifting of the suspension as a charade.

According to him, “The suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by the ward executives remains valid. The statements to the contrary in the media are false and should be disregarded. We stand by our decision and have no reservation on the action as it is in the best interest of the party.

“The ward executives as well as our counterparts at the Etsako West Local Government level stand by the suspension of Comrade Oshiomhole for his divisive role in the crisis rocking the APC in Edo State.”

Meanwhile, the Chairman APC in Etsako West LGA, Ezolomhe Rabiat, also affirmed that the LGA executives are still members of the party in the state and stand by the suspension of Comrade Oshiomhole.

“I want you to send this message to Oshiomole, that the God of heaven stand with Obaseki. God of heaven stands with Obaseki. I know that Oshiomole knows all the people in Abuja and he is using that manipulation to gain one or two favours, but I have said it before that if Oshiomole likes, let him fly to the sky, the Word of the Lord will come to pass. Edo State has been committed into the hands of Obaseki. Oshiomole and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu are just beating about the bush.

“It doesn’t matter which party he belongs, that is what God has revealed to me. Whatever the party, Obaseki will complete his eight years as Edo State Governor. God will humiliate those who oppose him.

“Now hear the Lord again concerning Edo- I see in the spirit realm that the battle in Edo, against Governor Godwin Obaseki will turn out a blessing for him. Who Hod has chosen, no man can stop. If Oshiomhole likes, let him fly to the sky, Obaseki must emerge victorious.

“The almighty God whom I serve, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has chosen Obaseki to rule Edo State for eight years, and no matter what the enemy might manipulate, no matter what Oshiomhole may plan, he and his manipulations will fail.

“God has ordained Obaseki to govern the good people of Edo State for eight good years.

“Oshiomhole is Mr Nobody now in Edo politics, and as far as God is concerned, the state is in the hands of Obaseki for the next four years”.

Edo: Protesters storm EFCC, demand Oshiomhole’s probe

Five days after the Justice James Oyomire (rtd.) Judicial panel of inquiry in Edo state indicted ex-governor Adams Oshiomhole in the Central hospital project, a group, Alliance for Collective Progress has called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to probe the alleged suspicious financial transaction during the former governor’s administration.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions, “Oshiomhole has been indicted, EFCC charge”.
Leader of the group, Mr. Nehemiah Omogiate, who led other members to the Benin zonal office of the commission on Monday said, “It was disheartening that the hospital was inaugurated with alleged borrowed equipment.

“We are aware that the panel of inquiry set up by governor Godwin Obaseki has submitted its report and in the report, the former governor of Edo state, Adam’s Oshiomhole administration was indicted.

“And we are here to register our grievance concerning the multi billion naria Edo specialist hospital project, a project that President Muhammadu Buhari was deceived to inaugurate four years ago.”

Omogiate called on the anti-graft agency to commence investigation into the alleged financial crime in the construction and procurement of equipment in the hospital in the interest of justice and accountability.

Head of public Affairs EFCC, Williams Oseghale, who received the group advised them to submit a written petition to EFCC for further action.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for good Governance and Internal Democracy said the composition of the panel “reflects an underhand motive geared towards indicting and demeaning Oshiomhole.”

According to spokesperson for the group, Solomon Idiogbe, “The panel is not in all intent and purpose in the best interest of the people of Edo state.”

Patrick Eholor salutes Oshiomhole at 68

Founder of One Love Foundation, a human right advocacy group, Patriot Patrick Eholor has sent a congratulatory message to the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Eholor in the message, expressed joy at the successes of Oshiomhole at different helms in the course of his political service, from his days as governor to present.

He wrote “As you celebrate your birthday, I pray that your life will be filled with strength, wisdom, grace, and health. I hope your year is filled with joy!”

The Gang-up Oshiomhole Never Anticipated, By Osehobo Ofure

A few days ago, Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki and his weary supporters in the APC said they were ready for peace and reconciliation outside the party machinery.

They said their principal will only participate in a reconciliation committee set up by the President himself or the Benin traditional council. Mr Joseph Osagiede who spoke for the group said this much while speaking in Benin with reporters.

But Nigerians have learnt not to take the governor serious. As someone who rejected 4 reconciliation committees set up within the party structure there is no guarantee that he will respect a divine effort.

This was days after the governor was seen in the company of APC ward officials ostensibly mobilized from Etsako West, claiming to have expelled the National chairman of the party, Mr Adams Oshiomhole.

This anti-reconciliation move was however punctured by more authentic APC leaders from the ward, who denied making the claims credited to them.

Meanwhile the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, late last year dismissed the call from the governor for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, saying party supremacy must be respected.

Mr Tinubu made his position known when he fielded questions from State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House Abuja.

According to the APC national leader, Mr Oshiomhole has so far not violated the APC constitution or engaged in any anti-party activity that will warrant his resignation or removal from office.

Recall that the present Edo APC crisis kicked off when the Edo assembly of 24 members-elect was inaugurated at night with only 9 of them present. A similar episode which played out in Bauchi state has since been resolved with Oshiomhole as National chairman of the APC calling for due process.

The call from Tinubu was on the heels of a similar one by the Forum of State Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress for the recently constituted APC National Reconciliation Committee to come up with an action plan to resolve the lingering crisis in the party.

The chairmen had urged the committee headed by the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, to set for work and ignore the camp of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, which had raised objection to the committee.

They said Edo as the only one out of the 36 states and Abuja, should not be allowed to frustrate peace efforts in the party since it was not ready for external mediators.

As it were the Lawan committee was the 4th in the series set up to find a way out of the Edo APC debacle largely orchestrated by the governor’s desperation for a second term.

The APC National Working Committee had on December 18 raised the 10-member committee headed by Lawan to resolve the lingering crisis in the party.

The arrangement was in line with the November 22, 2019 resolution of the party’s National Executive Committee, which empowered the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to constitute the committee.

Secretary of the Forum of APC chairmen, Dr Ben Nwoye, who is also the chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the APC, commended the Oshiomhole-led NWC for working towards achieving peace in the party.

This was after “Chairmen” of the APC in the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state loyal to Mr Obaseki in a statement jointly signed by Anselm Ojezua and Ikuenobe Anthony, respectively explained that Oshiomhole was suspended for his alleged role in the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party.

Consequent on the development, they said the Edo APC has adopted the vote of no confidence passed on Oshiomhole and the subsisting suspension order from the other organs of the party in the state.

The state party members added, “Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is the one behind the crisis in Edo APC. We have passed a vote of no confidence in him and he stands suspended from the party.

But in another statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the body and Etsako West Chairman, Ibrahim Akokia, as well as his Etsako Central and Owan West counterparts, Suleiman Bagudu and Lugard Alukpe respectively, the 18 LGA Chairmen of APC in Edo distanced themselves from the orchestrated Oshiomhole’s suspension.

They insisted that they were not aware of the meeting where a vote of no confidence was passed on Oshiomhole who they said was “doing very well”. On the contrary, they accused the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, of harassment and intimidation, adding that his actions could pull down the APC in the state.

They, called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to expel Governor Obaseki from the party over allegations of anti-party activities.

“He is on a mission to destroy APC in Edo State but we will resist it,” the chairmen added, “We are the chairmen of the party in the 18 LGA s and we are not aware of the meeting where a vote of no confidence was passed on the national chairman of our party, Comrade Oshiomhole who is doing very well”.

“Rather we are aware that majority of the chairmen haven suffered intimidation, harassment and assault in the hands of the Governor Godwin Obaseki led administration, what we have never seen in the politics of our dear state.”

The chairmen, thereafter, passed a vote of no confidence on Governor Obaseki and the embattled state chairman of the party, Anslem Ojezua, alleging that both men have not only failed the party but the people of the state.

“Oshiomhole remains our leader and we pass vote of confidence on his leadership. It is sad that the governor and his cohorts are using money to induce our members but majority of them, we are happy, have resisted his moves to intimidate them,” the LG chairmen said.

The Forum of state APC chairmen believes, “The formation of the National Reconciliation Committee is a welcome development. It is consistent with the resolution of the National Executive Committee. It is also an indication of clear intention by the NWC to reconcile all aggrieved members of our great party”.

They are of the view the party had shown sincerity of purpose to resolve lingering crisis by raising the committee, arguing that, “The committee members are patriotic Nigerians with diverse backgrounds and experiences”.

They know that the Reconciliation committee, ” will certainly achieve the desired objectives notwithstanding the dissenting opinion of few aggrieved members. As the saying goes, in democracy ‘majority will have their way while minority will have their say.”

“So, we expect the Senator Lawan-led committee to come up with an action plan to resolve most of the internal conflicts bedevilling the party. Edo is one state out of 36 states. There is one form of crisis or the other in all the other states of the federation…”.

The general feeling is that, “Edo State would not expect the other 35 states and Abuja to set aside their desire for peaceful resolution of all crises because Edo is not ready to allow external mediators to assist them in resolving their internal crisis”.

Senator Tinubu no doubt echoed popular opinion in the APC when he said,: “We all have to respect the party supremacy. You were all here when we had the Congress, we elected the new executives, we had the convention, the NEC was formed and we surrendered to avoid conflict, to avoid domination, to avoid abuses of power, we surrendered our rights, all rights to the National Working Committee headed by Adams Oshiomhole.

“That the National Working Committee should set up electoral bodies to supervise various state congresses and elections. ‘We signed off for it. So, if it is not in our individual favour, so be it'”.

He said, “We gave three options, consensus, where there is no consensus because if you are more than two or three and you cannot agree to one candidate, you go to the next level. The next level is the stakeholders’ delegates (system) and you have to be supervised by the National Working Committee of the party, national election committee of the party. That shows party supremacy or the freest option, the less cumbersome is to open direct primary, line up and count the number, 1,2,3. If you win, you win and if you fail, go home.’’

Mr Tinubu further explained that an appeal committee was set up by the party to look into grievances arising from the conduct of the party’s primaries, adding the committee, which served as internal mechanism for conflict resolution, had performed its duties diligently.

“It was there (appeal committee), you cannot turn round against that, and you cannot turn against all of that. No, Party is supreme, party must be respected, abuses will not do it and anger will not do it. It is party politics, somebody will win and somebody will lose, too bad,’’ he added.

It would be recalled that Mr Oshiomhole, had earlier alleged that conservatives within the party were ganging up to pass a vote of no-confidence on him. He said in a statement that his sin was his refusal to allow continued impunity and circumvention of due process being perpetuated in some states.

The APC chairman added that he was not surprised by the gang up, as he never had the illusion that the process of reforming the party was going to be an easy one.

He also did not expect that someone he held the ladder for to climb to relevance politically in his state of origin will be at the forefront either.

Oshiomhole: APC Govs Forum DG asks NEC to name Ag. National Chairman

…Says, party’s NWC ‘an unaccountable assembly with thuggish temperament’

By Omeiza Ajayi

Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum PGF, Salihu Moh. Lukman has again weighed in on the current crisis afflicting the leadership of his party, calling on the National Executive Committee NEC to immediately name an acting National Chairman and also fill five vacant positions in the National Working Committee NWC.

Lukman’s suggestion came in the aftermath of Wednesday’s order of a Federal Capital Territory FCT High Court suspending the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Thursday order of the Federal High Court in Kano, nullifying the suspension of Comrade Oshiomhole by his Ward 10 Etsako executive members.

NEC should replace Oshiomhole

Lukman in a statement Friday in Abuja said; “First, pending the settlement of all the cases around Comrade Oshiomhole’s membership, we need to invoke provisions of Article 17 (vi) which provides that in the event of a vacancy, “the relevant Party organ shall appoint another person to act in his place pending ratification by the National Convention or Congress.” The relevant party organ, in this case, may have to be the National Executive Committee (NEC). Given all the vacancies about six so far, National Chairman, Deputy National Chairman (South), Deputy National Chairman (North), National Vice Chairman (North West), National Secretary and National Auditor, who convene the NEC? This is where the organising, consultation and negotiating capacity of our leaders will be tested. Combinations of the majority of the remaining members of the NWC in consultation with President Buhari, Governors, other party leaders who are leading members of the National Caucus can resolve all these issues and convene the NEC to appoint an Acting National Chairman.

“With the appointment of an Acting National Chairman, the next would be to seek to invoke provisions of Article 25 A(i) of the APC constitution, which stipulate that the “National Convention of the Party shall be held once in Two (2) years at a date, venue and time to be recommended by the National Working Committee and approved by the National Executive Committee subject to the giving of statutory notice to Independent National Electoral Commission and at least fourteen (14) days notice given to members eligible to attend.” Already, this is the second year since the last Convention in 2018 where Comrade Oshiomhole-led NWC was elected. What this means is that with or without our current challenges we are actually due for a National Convention”, he added.

Unaccountable NWC

Lukman also chastised the party’s NWC, accusing the body of constituting itself into an unaccountable assembly of people with thuggish temperament.

“The business of leaders will not be to intimidate party members to accept their positions. Somehow, this is the locus of all our challenges. Whether we want to accept it or not, we today found ourselves with the embarrassing situation whereby almost all the structures of the party have been frozen at all levels. This is certainly not the making of President Buhari. The only possible structure that appears to be meeting is the National Working Committee NWC, which is an administrative organ. Even the NWC we are told that it is not united, so much that it could make a decision on January 14, 2020, and the announcement of its decision will only ‘coincidentally’ come on March 4, 2020, shortly after Justice Senchi issued the order for interlocutory injunction. This is all because members of the Comrade Oshiomhole-led NWC have constituted themselves into an unaccountable assembly with a thuggish temperament, which seeks to browbeat every member of the party especially aspiring candidates into submission.

“Sadly, some accounts of the management of the 2019 election process around a selection of candidates produced some discomforting reports of corrupt practices of members of the Comrade Oshiomhole-led NWC. These are accounts that suggested that the process of candidates’ selection within the party is turned to stockbroking in which the main stock is the party’s nomination to contest any of the elective positions. Interestingly, now all the issues around the current challenges are being reduced to contestation for 2023 almost in a way that suggests maybe the ‘stocks’ for 2023 have already been sold and therefore anyone that is complaining is doing so based on that prism. It is simply a case of judging the dynamics and other standpoints based on the 2023 mindset that appeared to be informed by expectations of projected ‘stockbroking’ transactions” he said.

While he praised President Muhammadu Buhari for not interfering in the current travails of the party, Lukman, however, suggested that the only way out of the challenges facing Comrade Oshiomhole is to go back to his Ward and reconcile with his people.

“As a layman, it is important to ask the question, assuming in all of these, Comrade Oshiomhole remained as the National Chairman and proceeds to organise primary elections for Edo, Ondo and Anambra, how advantageous will that be to APC? Let us also assume for the purpose of analysis that undisputed candidates emerge from the primaries in which no one within the party is contesting the results. Whether those undisputed candidates include Governors Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and Mr Rotimi Akeredolu SAN of Ondo State is immaterial. The Zamfara and Bayelsa judicial cloud would appear to have already gathered with any opposition party led by PDP just positioned to harvest what will come with such clouds.

Way out for Oshiomhole

“Given such reality, it will be foolhardy for any upright thinking politician to aspire to contest on the platform of the party with Comrade Oshiomhole as the National Chairman. The only possible remedy will be if Comrade Oshiomhole is able to humble himself and go back to the root cause of the problem and resolve it. What is the root cause of the problem? It is the suspension by his Ward 10 in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. Since November 2, 2019, the Ward 10 Executives passed a vote of no confidence on Comrade Oshiomhole and suspended him from the party. Somehow, Comrade Oshiomhole and his supporters treated this action of the Ward Executives with contempt to the point of projecting Comrade Oshiomhole as superior to the Ward”, he stated.

Oshiomhole files stay of execution, says, ‘I am still in charge’

National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has filed for stay of execution of action over an Abuja High Court interim order suspending him as the national chairman of the party.

The Chief Press Secretary to the APC Chairman, Mr. Simon Egbebulem, said that the legal team of Oshiomhole is studying the matter.

He added that the the chairman has filed for a stay of execution and appealed the ruling.

According to Egbebulem: “With these processes Oshiomhole remains the National Chairman of the party”.

‘Oshiomhole’s suspension, an act of God’, says Governor Obaseki

By Osahon Osahon

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has reacted to the Abuja Federal High Court ruling which suspended his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He described the ruling as God’s divine plans for the state.

The Governor stated this while addressing party members during the Edo South Senatorial rally of the APC in Benin City, the State capital.

Obaseki who have been at daggers drawn with Oshiomhole over the soul of the party in Edo State described the ruling as God’s plan and a right decision for the party which calls for a thanksgiving to celebrate the it.

He siad: “When we planned this meeting last week to meet with all our executives, we did not know that God has plan for us today.

“No man is God. God is God. No man can play God. With what God has done today, what we should do now is to just thank him.

“The meaning of  what happened today is that peace has now finally come to our party. The purpose of God for Nigeria in our party will now be fulfilled.

“My problem with Comrade Oshiomhole is that when people started saying that they were Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), I called him and urged him to denounce them.

“I told him to come out and say something. I told him ‘Comrade, denounce them, you are the national chairman; disassociate yourself from these people that are destroying our party.’ Up till today, he did not.”

Obaseki however said that the decision of the court barring Oshiomhole from parading himself as national chairman of the APC does not make him a happy man.

“The court has taken the right decision today, but it does not make me a happy person because it would not have come to this.

“So, my message today is, when a child puts his hands in feces, you do not cut off that hand, you take that hand and wash it.

“And for those our members who have been misled, we cannot practice our democracy the way it was in 1983,” the Governor said.
