Dr Kalu Salutes Edo people, PDP Coalition, Lovers of Democracy Over Edo Election

The National Coordinator of People’s Democratic Party Coalition, Chief Dr Emeka Kalu has congratulated the people of Edo State, All members of PDP Coalition and all lovers of freedom and democracy in Nigeria and across the world for standing for free and fair election in Edo State, a feat he believes has sent the right signal to the landlords of manor farm who believes the fate of the nation revolves around their will and caprices.

In a Press Statement signed by Comr Amos Kalu, his media and policy aide, Chief Dr Kalu expressed joy and optisms, maintaining that the Edo experience will serve as a yardstick for restoration of hope in the democratic system of Nigeria as the will of the people was allowed to take upper hand due to the indomitable spirit of Edolites and every Nigerian who called for transparency and stood by it to the very conclusion.

Chief Kalu therefore congratulated and thanked every member of PDP Coalition for their collective efforts, especially those members that were on ground to relay the true position of the electoral process as well as standing on ground to enforce protection of votes and to ensure that the will of the people prevailed over will of godfathers that place their own personal interest above the collective interest of the people, a bad precedence that has just been defeated in Edo State, that will be repeated in Ondo and Anambra States and be transmitted to the center in 2023.

“It is a very clear statement now that Nigeria can be rescued when the people begin to say no to overbearing leaders who have held the nation in perpetual backwardness through godfatherism.

“I appreciate the PDP for standing up to the occasion till the final whistle by employing every approach possible within the positive ambit of the law to protect the peoples votes in Edo State.

“I will not fail to appreciate the USA and UK who in their maginiminity and political calculations introduced a VISA ban on riggers in good time because denial to travel to US and UK is like taking away the breath that makes most of them breath. Distasteful as it may taste to them, that too played its role to put riggers in the right sense of caution.

“I also wish to congratulate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a true democrat that put in everything to ensure that the will of the people was respected. Your leadership in PDP will continue to count for positive and more gains in the future. This is not forgetting my good friend, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, the Campaign Chairman who refused to be intimidated by the antics of Federal Might by standing his ground and ensuring that voting was strictly monitored. All PDP NWC in the able hands of Chief Uche Secondus is well appreciated and extolled for their candor and mature approach to political matters. Congratulations to you all.

“I must confess that the Edo experience is a plus for Nigeria’s Democracy and a legacy we must embrace as Nigerians to ensure that our true emancipation is attained in the nearest future.

“I also urge president Mohammadu Buhari to sign the revised Electoral Rules into law to ensure that our democratic experiment continues to gain strength” he said.

Finally in all affairs of men on earth, na only God-Win.

Edo Elections: PDP Protests Siege on Governors By Security Agents

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as unacceptable the clampdown on its governors by security agents in Benin City, Edo State capital, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The national leadership of the party, in a press conference addressed by the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, alerted the nation and the international community of the security siege on PDP governors in their lodging in Benin City.

The party expressed shock that security agents were detailed to surround the lodging of PDP governors to harass and intimidate them, whereas APC governors, including the governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje, his Imo state counterpart, Hope Uzodimma as well as the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, are left free in the comfort of the residence of the former national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole in GRA, Benin City.

The Press Release, signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, the
National Publicity Secretary of the party read in part;

“Our party considers this siege as provocative and completely unacceptable as there cannot be two sets of laws for the citizens of our nation. In as much as the APC governors are given the liberty to stay in Benin City, our governors must not be harassed or stampeded to leave the state.

“At any rate, we are confident that our governors will not allow themselves to be stampeded.

“The PDP calls on all stakeholders in the Edo governorship election, particularly the security agencies, to work towards a peaceful, credible, transparent, free and fair election on Saturday”.

Edo Guber 2020: PFN Charges Edo People To Maintain Peace During Elections

National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude, has charged the people of Edo State, to maintain peace and orderliness before, during and after the September 19 governorship election in the state.

Dr. Omobude who is also the General Superintendent of Gospel Light International Ministry (GLIM) – New Covenant Gospel Church (NCGC), in a press statement in Benin City, signed by his Media Aide, Deacon Ralph Okhiria, said the election of an individual politician is not worthy of the blood or life of any resident of the state.

“My dear good people of Edo state, I identify and join my voice to the many other good citizens of the state to call for peace during this governorship election scheduled for Saturday, this week.

“The contestants have transversed the length and breadth of the state and have told us what they intend to do and can do. It is now our duty to make our choices and then come out boldly to exercise our franchise.

“I want to call on you to do what is right. Don’t give yourself to violence, don’t allow your children to be used for violent activities.

“The Church stands for truth. We stand for justice. We stand for equity. Let’s defend our values. Truth must overcome falsehood. Light must overcome darkness.

“In your voting, don’t sell your conscience. Stand for what is right and the overall interest and development of our great state.

“Election is a period to reward good with our votes and also a period to punish evil with our Personal Voter’s Cards (PVC).

“The PFN also wishes to once again appeal to our politicians to be more circumspect in their utterances and activities, by ensuring that they put the state first in all their conducts.

“They should not let their ambitions blindfold them or override the peace of the state. It is important that politicians do not destroy the state and people they aspire to govern.

“Furthermore, it is important that the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), carry out their jobs professionally, to engender peaceful, free, fair and credible election that we will all be proud of.

“I therefore enjoin all the Christians in Nigeria, particularly those in Edo State to be prayerful and go back to their core value as the pillar of truth and rise up in prayers against the forces of evils”, the PFN national president, added.

EDO 2023: I endorse Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, by Peter Agba Kalu

There’s something fundamentally wrong with the way we play politics in Nigeria. We play politics without principle and I think that’s why our society is like this and, that’s equally why our politicians take us for a ride. We need to grow above this if in the real sense that we thoroughly want to liberate ourselves from the shackles of these politicians.

We’re equally their political tugs without knowing it. While the other touts carry guns and dagger to bully, destroy and kill, we pick pens and data to do same here.

Just few months back, I personally and several others were routing for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the PDP candidate, while condemning the present Edo State governor Obasike, because he was in APC. Few months later all that changed because both crossed party. We forget character and individual values, we forgot all that we have said. We lambaste APC for turning anyone into saint once he joins them. We’re equally guilty and showed evidence that we will do same if we’re in their position, when Gov. Obasike too, that we have been lambasting over the years became Saint Godwin once he joined PDP. All the video of Oshiomhole lambasting Osagie Ize-Iyamu, which we all understood why it happened, and knew it was normal in politics, just like American politicians lambast each other and later come together to work for party interest. We became even worst than Oshiomhole, while still lambasting him for not being a steady soul and for eating his words. Yet, all of us attacking the former Edo governor jumped ship from supporting Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to supporting Governor Obasike just because he changed party. We didn’t see anything wrong in our attitudes, but see everything wrong in Oshiomhole doing the same thing.
Our society is like this because we allow ourselves to be used to play ludo by these politicians.

Look at this video and tell me what what’s different with what APC and Oshiomhole is doing today. This was less than one year ago, November 2019. Those PDP members here were telling the world that Obaseki failed woefully and here is our own Dan Orbih making it clear. From this you will come to the realization that all politicians are the same. Their support is down to selfish reasons not for anything that will benefit the people. They have been heavily influenced with the state fund and we pick our data to finish their work for them. Just like we mock the touts and ask them if any of them can see the politicians children carrying guns to fight. It’s the same thing with us. Can you see any of the politicians children on social media ranting about their parents political opponents. No! You won’t. They are busy studying and living the good life in overseas.

After watching this video, I realized how foolish we have been while pointing accusing fingers at the other side as being foolish.

We all understand the circumstances behind Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu joining APC, but because of our dislike for anything APC, Buhari or Oshiomhole we pretend not to know. During the last Edo State governorship election l supported Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, because after checking on the top two of the candidates, I knew he’s a far better and refined person that will make a better leader. But once he joined APC, like many other people, I became blind to all those facts and started behaving like Oshiomhole that I have been busy mocking for not being steady.

All these political parties are the same, forget it! What really matters in Nigerian politics is individual values and vision. There’s no single political philosophy behind these parties. Some PDP governors are just empty, while some APC governors are delivering. So based on this particular statement of mind, I decided to review my stand on Edo State politics based sincerely on individual values and characters, not party affiliation or interest.

Based on the the above stand, I have the courage to step out and endorse Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. This does not change my view about APC and Buhari’s government. I just want to be liberated from the shackles of these politicians who have no single interest for the people. I want to set this example and hope my action will help lots of people to wake up and together, we will look beyond party and look at individuals values in supporting our politicians. Only this will make them sit up.

Edo Priestesses Visit Edo Assembly With Juju, Lay Curses on Opposers of Governor Obaseki

The spiritual leader of Ekutetebite Negwogho group, Princess lnibokun lmasemwenbor, has laid curses on opposers of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The Edo priestess, who visited the Edo State House of Assembly with her team on Friday morning, pronounced the curses at the gate of the Assembly.

She was in company of other priestesses, who said they represent the priestesses of traditional worship centres across Benin Kingdom.

Speaking on their behalf, Princess lnibokun lmasemwenbor, said she inherited her symbol of authority as juju priestess from her grandfather and whatever she pronounced on anyone will be so.

“I was at home when I saw on television the crisis at the Edo Assembly. I heard some of the things said that some people from other ethnic groups are trying to turn Benin upside down. We Benin people don’t like what they are doing.

“APC is oppressing Obaseki, that is mere oppression, they want to oppress our Obaseki.

“Why I am interested in the matter is that we did not have access road to my community before Obaseki became Governor. We used to spend so much to come to Benin. But now, we can travel in and out of our community with ease, no more erosion.

“For that reason, I must support Obaseki for a second term. Whoever says he will turn the state upside down to rig the election, let the heads of our ancestors torment them.

“Obaseki is a peace maker, he gave us amenities of life and for that reason, I have to back him up with my strength.”

Princess lmasemwenbor assured that Obaseki will be re-elected Governor again for another four years.

“Nobody will grab it from him and whoever says he will turn the state upside down to subvert the wishes of the people, help us tell such people that the head of our ancestors will torment them, all the deities of Benin kingdom should torment them,” she warned.

The Simple Agenda Recipe For Fire Disaster And Housing

By Don Osehobo Ofure

My mailbox is full with many questions from eager Edo people, who want to know the specific plan the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s Manifesto the Simple Agenda for fire disaster. There are others who want to know about his plans for low cost houses.

Let me start with the Fire Service. I am aware because I have read about it as item (C) under the second letter of the Simple Agenda which is ‘Infrastructure Development and Urban Renewal’, that the incoming APC governor of Edo state has a Fire service policy.

Very recently, Pastor Ize-Iyamu commended the Federal Government for donating a very sturdy Fire Service vehicle to Edo state. The donation was the high point of the disaster and embarrassment, the Edo State Fire Service has become under the present government.

The very bad situation was summed up by the Nigerian Conference of Fire Service Directors who lamented the ugly state of the Edo fire service at its recent conference when it said, fire-fighters and equipments for quick response to disasters, are absent in Edo.

The body called on the State government to expedite action in approving the urgent recruitment of more fire fighters as those in the state fire service have become old hands as well as provide it with adequate funding for training and purchase of new state-of-the-art fire fighting equipments.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu is, “… seriously concerned about the Edo Fire Service responses to critical fire incidences, particularly within our major cities. The Uwelu Spare Parts market, Oliha market, Santana market, Osa market, and the Urhokpota fire disasters all within eight months have exposed the terrible state of our fire service and the government’s disdain for the common man hinged on her failure to respond and prepare for future incidences”.

As a result the Simple Agenda has a plan to ” modernize, scale up and enhance the capacity of Edo State Fire Service to respond effectively to critical fire incidents within 30 minutes in our cities”.

Also, “Every major market in the state will be reformed to accommodate a fire service unit. These units will serve as a branch of the state fire service”. This will be in addition to his government setting up, “dedicated water reservoirs in some areas of the state for the refill of water tanks of fire service trucks”.

On the subject of Housing, it is also a critical part of the Infrastructure development and Urban Renewal plan of Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s Simple Agenda, and is labelled (D). But let me digress a little.

The housing deficit in our country is put at over 20 million units. It is also estimated that more than 60% of Edolites live in substandard housing. Nigeria’s National Housing Policy (NHP) came on stream in 2006 as a solution to a growing and recurring problem of housing shortage.

It was in 2013, that the Federal government commissioned the Nigerian Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC), a private sector-driven mortgage refinancing company with the public purpose of promoting home ownership for Nigerians while deepening the primary and secondary mortgage markets.

The Simple Agenda plans to addressing housing by encouraging, ” the Public-Private-Partnership initiative in the provision of decent housing units for people in the state”. To do this, the, “Government will supply quality housing through a policy for social housing for the poor and the vulnerable, and develop affordable houses for workers in the state”, as well as allow the public, ” access to affordable mortgages at single-digit interest rates”.

New Government Reservation Areas (GRA) are also planned and this the Simple Agenda hopes to actualize, ” by allocating land, providing infrastructure (including road networks) and inviting reputable developers to take over such areas at reasonable cost to government and the affected communities”.

The beauty of the policies and plans for the Fire Service and Housing in Edo state by the incoming government of Pastor Ize-Iyamu is that, they, ” would lead to the creation of additional jobs in the economy”.

I will inaugurate Edo Assembly after I’m sworn in as Edo Governor – Ize-Iyamu

The APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has promised to inaugurate the House of Assembly as soon as he is sworn in as Edo State Governor, after his victory in the September elections in the state.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu made the promise while addressing former PDP and SDP leaders and members who decamped to the APC from the various wards that make up the Local government area along with leaders of the APC who paid him a solidarity visit on Monday.

He said, ” I want to assure you, if these people don’t enter office before the election, once we are sworn in, their inauguration will be a priority because you cannot have the Edo House of Assembly sitting without Ovia Northeast”.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu also said that denying the Ovia Northeast people and over half of Edo state, a well deserved representation by refusing to properly inaugurate the Edo Assembly, Governor Obaseki does not deserve a single vote.

“Just like the way Obaseki was elected to be governor, you elected Vincent Uwadiae for Constituency 1 and Dumez Ugiagbe for Constitiency 2 to go and represent you at the House of Assembly. You elected them but the Governor refused to allow them to sit for one year”.

The APC candidate who presented the people with copies of his Simple Agenda manifesto, called on them to reject the PDP and Governor Godwin Obaseki in the Edo state governorship elections, by voting the APC to punish the outgoing government for neglecting the area in the last four years.

He lamented the insecurity in the area which led to the kidnapping and killing of a former State Civil Commissioner and the refusal of the governor to pay protesting Staff of College of Education, Ekiadolor their entitlements and assured them that change was coming to Edo with the APC government he will head.

He concluded by saying that, “We don’t play politics for fun. We have a reason, we have an objective and that objective is that our people, through government must progress. We ourselves must progress and my prayer is that the incoming government will be better for you than the past government”.
