Thousands of women on Friday morning stormed the Benin City Ring Road Friday morning, chanting and praying against the All Progressives Congress (APC)
They said they don’t want the APC anymore in the state.
The women however, wore insignia of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
An Edo PDP governorship aspirant, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama has withdrawn his case in Port Harcourt against Governor Godwin Obaseki.
This followed an out-of-court settlement following which the Federal High Court stepped down the case.
Justice Emmanuel Obile, struck out the case.
Obile had granted an interim injunction on Monday excluding Obaseki from tomorrow’s governorship primary.
Ogbeide-Ihama, had sued the National chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, Emmanuel Ogidi and seven others, including Obaseki.
He sought a court declaration restraining them from allowing Obaseki, who was not screened within the time stipulated in the timetable to contest the PDP’s primary.
Omoregie’s Counsel, Fredinard Orgbe before the hearing of the case requested that the court should stand it down.
This was to enable parties reach terms of settlement.
The lawyers to all the defendants also agreed with the request.
Governor Godwin Obaseki, Friday, cleared all doubts of the likelihood of his joining the People’s Democratic party (PDP) as he officially joined the party.
The governor and his supporters stormed the PDP Secretariat at about 2 pm. to finalize the necessary official and ceremonial activities surrounding the official movement into the party.
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi, has declared that Governor Godwin Obaseki and all his loyalists were set to join the party.
He said Obaseki’s deputy, Philip Shuaib, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter would also defect.
The party leader made the disclosure in an interview with NAN on Monday in Benin.
Aziegbemi said the governor, “his deputy and the entire APC structure in the state will be joining PDP soon”.
The chairman disclosed that they have been in touch “in the last few days”.
Aziegbemi assured that by Tuesday, he would “be able to confirm the exact date he (Obaseki) will be joining, along with his team.”
He added that he was not “aware that the governor has obtained our party’s membership card.
“I can also say that there is no automatic ticket in the offing for him at all”, Aziegbemi said.
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Edo State has accused Governor Dave Umahi of sabotage, over his recent endorsement of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In a letter addressed to Chief Uche Secondus, National Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, Edo State Chairman of the party expressed serious concerns that ‘saboteurs within’ were threatening to jeopardise their chances of winning the 2020 guber elections in the state, in the face of polarisation of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo.
He described Umahi’s ‘open endorsement’ as ‘condemnable and smacks of indiscipline and ingratitude’, and “defeats the spirit of camaraderie that is supposed to exist within a political party. It is a morale-damper and it’s unacceptable”.
The letter read in part “from the opinion polls we conducted, this year, 2020, represents our brightest chance of winning the state back.
“The party in government is engrossed in a fierce battle of supremacy between the governor, Governor Obaseki and his national chairman Adams Oshiomhole. Their “fight” has seriously affected governance to the extent that even the state house of assembly only has 10 out of 24 members seating even though they won 24/24 seats in the last elections. Not fewer than 6 council chairmen have been sacked as well as at least 4 members of state executive council because of their “questionable loyalty”!
“They have polarized their party beyond recognition. There is a gale of suspension going on in their party as the National Chairman, State chairman and even the Governor, Deputy Governor and the Secretary to the State Government have all been suspended by the rival factions in their party. Their party is therefore now immersed in court cases across the federation.
“Your Excellency, this background was necessary so that you understand the pains we are going through in Edo when we hear leaders, members of the board of trustees and even some Governors uncharitable endorsement of APC embattled Governor Godwin Obaseki. The most recent of this is Governor David Umahi open endorsement of Godwin Obaseki for re-election”.
