Social rights activist and Observer General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Patrick Eholor has congratulated the new Edo State Commissioner for Information, Mr Efe Stewart.
Eholor in a congratulatory message signed by him, described Stewart as a composite and grounded journalist who knows his onions, and is therefore the best hand for the job.
“The appointment of Mr Efe Stewart has demonstrated that our dear governor fully understands that the art of governance requires the best skilled hands in the delivery of the dividends of democracy, especially in such a critical period such as this.
“Mr Efe Stewart is one of the most robust hands in the business of public relations and media communications, and I was not surprised, but indeed delighted to see him there. I therefore most heartily congratulate him for this noble appointment, and wish him the best in the service of our dear state”, Eholor said in the message.
Until his appointment, Stewart was the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Uselu, Benin City. He is also the publishes of community based newspaper, Revolution Times.
Several groups in Edo State have commended Governor Godwin Obaseki over the appointment of Mr Efe Stewart as the new Commissioner for Information and Orientation. When Paul Ohonbamu, immediate past Commissioner of Information and Orientation resigned his appointment from the cabinet of Mr Obaseki, many thought it was a deadly blow to the solar plexus of the governor. The resignation came in the heat of the political battle between the Governor and his erstwhile godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, his predecessor in office and recently removed national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.However, Obaseki who is fast gaining reputation as the giant killer in politics was unfazed. He, indeed pulled what many termed a political masterstroke as he announced a replacement for Ohonbamu within two hours. He nominated Efe Stewart as Commissioner designate.Until his appointment by the governor, Stewart was the public relations officer of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric hospital in Uselu, Benin City. He also publishes a community based newspaper, Revolution Times.According to Osagie Osemwingie, chairman of Youth Campaign For Neighborhood Rights, YCFNR, Stewart as a functional public relations practitioner understands the need and essence of effective communication and public relations in promoting good governance and development. As a vibrant member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, “he is well qualified to execute his role in government very well”, Osemwingie noted. According to the YCFNR in a press statement signed by its chairman, Obaseki could not have made a better choice at this time. “Stewart is a square peg in a square hole” , he said emphatically.Similarly, Victory For Obaseki Group, in a statement by its public relations officer, Henry Omoregie, argued that the appointment of Stewart confirms governor Obaseki”s belief in the capacity of the youths.Omoregie disclosed that Stewart has been a very hard-working youth who believes in uninhibited progress without influence from political godfathers:”He is a loyal party man and has made several sacrifices for our Egor Local Government Area and we have confidence that with his new appointment he will do more for our people”.The group also commended the organizational ability and political mobilization skills of Stewart.”In short, with Stewart as Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Governor Obaseki can go to sleep knowing that Egor Local Government Council is locked down for victory for him in the coming governorship elections.”He referred to Stewart as a resourceful grassroots man.Speaking to journalists on his appointment, Stewart said,” with my confirmation by the state house of assembly I will work tirelessly to ensure the realization of Governor Obaseki’s laudable programmes of accelerated development of the state”.He promised to sink or swim with the governor politically.”Wherever the governor goes I will go with him. With the governor picking up the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP we are set to win Edo state back for PDP in the coming governorship election” .
