Delta Assembly end 2017 plenary,  as female lawmaker passes on

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Monday Igbuya has described the passing of the member representing Warri South 1, Hon Beatrice Omawumi Udoh as unfortunate and painful.

Igbuya, who described Udoh as a dogged fighter, grassroots woman and leader,

declared open the last plenary for 2016 open on Thursday, 15th December called for a minute of silence in her honour,  after which the lawmakers went out to sign the condolence register opened for her sake.

The members were all dressed in black to honour her.

The Assembly then moved a motion to adjourn sitting till January 17,2017, thus bringing to an end its sitting for the year.

In a condolence message to the family, the speaker said: “I wish to convey to you the deepest condolence of the Delta Sate House of Assembly”.

He described Hon Udoh as an extra-ordinary woman who demonstrated a life of service, love, compassion and excellence to her family, community and the state.

“Hon Omawumi Udoh distinguished herself as a member of the Delta State House of Assembly. Her death is a great loss to the state. We will miss her” he mourned.

To the people of Warri South,  he said ‘Hon Omawumi Udoh built a bridge of hope and unity among her people. She played politics of development. She had a generous spirit. She was dependable in every facet of her life. She was also admired for her wit, charm, vision and steadfast devotion to her political associates and family” Igbuya said.

Delta@25: Speaker commends efforts of statesmen


 The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Monday Igbuya, on Saturday commended Deltans at home and abroad for projecting the state in positive direction.

He also paid homage to prominent personalities who laid the foundation of the state.

Igbuya spoke to journalists in Asaba during the 25 year anniversary celebration of the state yesterday, highlighting on the journey of the Sixth Assembly in its first year.

“We have accomplished great tasks. However, we can never consider what we have achieved to be sufficient. We are determined to accomplish even more and greater tasks. We shall raise Delta State to the level of the most prosperous in the country” he said.

The Speaker who described members of the Delta State House of Assembly as noble characters not only demonstrated his conviction about collective governance but commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his judicious use of resources and meticulous planning to overcome potential challenges.

“Government is a serious business and if we ever hope to set out of the nation’s grim economic predicament, we must of necessity employ the fundamental principles of serious business”.

He promised that the current administration would deepen the socio-economic and political development of the state.

“The current administration will put in place extensive infrastructural facilities and services with equitable and fair spatial outreach in order to better the standard and quality of life of all citizens. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in Delta State will narrow the urban-rural development gap and reduce socio-economic disparities” he said.

Submit to your husbands, Delta Speaker re-echoes Bible to wives


The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Wednesday appealed to women to be submissive to their husbands.
 
“Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. It is only when the woman is totally submissive to the husband, that the man can show love. And husbands must love their wives with tender and faithful affection. It is very difficult to have two heads of authority” the speaker said.

Igbuya who was happy at the turn out of prominent Nigerians to the traditional marriage of his son, Rowan, expressed profound appreciation to God for making the occasion a resounding success.
 
The traditional marriage undoubtedly brought together the crème de la crème of our society.
 
Speaking in Asaba, Igbuya expressed sincere gratitude to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, party leaders, commissioners and board members who despite their numerous and rather tight schedule found time to grace the occasion.
 
“I thank the Delta State Governor, the members of the Executive Council, the Judiciary, the Legislature, all our Royal fathers, Captains of Industries and leaders of Religious Organizations; I appreciate your love and sense of commitment in coming to grace the ceremony. May God grant you all continued success in the service of the nation”.
 
He also gave credit to his wife for the respectful children with strong family values,
 
The representative of Sapele State Constituency in the House of Assembly advised politicians to marry only upright women.
 
“Marriage is a life-long commitment and requires a great deal of forethought. Public officers should go for respectable women. A woman should take care of the home and children. Your wife should look after your children” he added.

1YR IN OFFICE: Okowa congratulates Delta Assembly, calls for sober reflection to move nation forward

AS Nigeria continues to suffer financial woes as a result of fall in oil revenue, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has called for sober reflection on what should be done to put the country in irreversible path of progress. The governor also congratulated the Delta House of Assmebly for a successful one year in office.

Governor Okowa made the call on Sunday,  (12/06/16) at the first anniversary thanksgiving service of the 6th Assembly of the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) at the Divine Way Baptist Church, Asaba.

Speaker of DTHA, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya took the first reading at the service which was attended by top political office holders, traditional rulers, clergy men, among others.

According to Governor Okowa, the price of oil nose dived in 2014 and since then, the country has been faced with how to meet its her financial obligations, observing that the multiplier effects of the dwindling revenue were affecting all arms of government.

While stating that Nigerians deserve to reflect on what happened during the oil windfall periods, Governor Okowa called for prayers so that the situation can be turned around by God.

“In the midst of plenty that we had, within a space of one day, the price of oil started going down and it has continued,” he said, reiterating, “we are not only grappling with poor oil price, but, we are even unable to produce 50 per cent of our allotted capacity; it is time to return to God, only God can heal the land and deliver us, He is able to unite us, bring the glory back, if genuinely we call on His name, the Lord will definitely bless us but, we need to present our hearts to Him to turn things around.”

He congratulated the House of Assembly for a successful one year, saying that putting God first in every situation is the best thing to do.

Rt. Hon. Igbuya at the occasion, commended Governor Okowa for effective management of resources to deliver democratic dividends to the people despite the tough economic situation.

“The last one year has been very rewarding, Governor Okowa has shown wonderful fatherhood to the legislature, in spite of the bad economy, you have been very good to us, come 2019, you will not campaign, we will campaign for you,” the Speaker emphasized.

Delivering a sermon at the occasion, the Vice President (Ministerial), Nigeria Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Dickson Madogwe thanked God for the unity of purpose between the three arms of government in Delta State, and re-echoed the need to thank God, noting, “we can say that without God, we will not be able to achieve what we have achieved.”

Rev. Madogwe who spoke on the theme, “Our song of victory’, stated, “leadership is tough, leadership is not easy, but God remain God, if He has placed you there, you will remain there, our life is anchored by God, so, hold on to God, look for every opportunity to make impact and trust God for your future, because of your future don’t go and dabble into fetish things; if you see yourself that God has appointed you, you will see Him as the one who will take care of your future and your future will continue to be a testimony.”

High point of the occasion was special thanksgiving by members of the Delta State House of Assembly accompanied by the Governor, his Deputy, Barr. Otuaro and other dignitaries.

Okowa, PDP, sure bet beyond 2019, says Delta Speaker Igbuya

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Sunday reaffirmed his positions on the future of the state.

“The PDP is fully planted everywhere in Delta State. Nothing will threaten Okowa’s re-election in 2019. We will stand by him” he said.

Igbuya who spoke on governorship location in 2019, tenure and other matters at the first anniversary thanksgiving service of the Sixth Assembly released praises and accolades on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

 “By the legislative rule, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is the 30th member of the Delta State House of Assembly. He is a miracle working governor. Delta State should count itself as blessed for producing somebody like Okowa. He has performed well under an unfriendly economic situation and will continue to do his good work for the state” he said. 

The Speaker commended Okowa for his fatherly support and regular payment of salaries to the workers.

We will continue to support Governor Okowa and all his programmes aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of people of the state”.

Focusing on stability, unity and economic reforms, Igbuya, a political tactician, said “it is the interest of Delta State for Okowa to continue in office beyond May 2019”

He urged Deltans at home and abroad to continue to pray for Governor Okowa.

He also asked his colleagues to forgive him for past mistakes.

“It is not easy leading 28 brains.  Let us continue to work in unity” 

The thanksgiving service held at Divine Way Baptist Church, Okpanam Road, Asaba was attended by top government functionaries, industry captains, academics, traditional rulers and others.

‎Delta HA suspends lawmaker over misconduct, recalls council chairman

The lawmaker representing Ughelli South state constituency, Honourable Reuben Izeze has been suspended by the Delta State House of Assembly.

The lawmaker, according to the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr Henry Ebireri, the lawmaker’s suspension will last for three months. Izeze was accused by the House of alleged legislative misconduct.

The Majority Leader of the House, Hon Tim Owhefere moved the motion the motion for the suspension, accusing the lawmaker of bringing the Assembly to disrepute.

“He is hereby suspended for a period of three months” the Speaker, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya said during the plenary on Tuesday.

In a related development, the House recalled the suspended chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Mrs. Nkechi Chukwura.

Meanwhile, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya will be briefing journalists on his one year in office today(8th June, 2016). The briefing will hold at the Assembly grounds, Okpanam Road, Asaba.

DESOPADEC, anti-kidnapping, health commission, top among 23 bills we received, says Delta Speaker

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya has revealed that some of the top bills they received in the last one year include the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission Amendment Bill, Delta State Contributory Health Commission Bill and Delta State 2016 Appropriation Bill, which were passed and assented to by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

The Speaker also explained that those passed and are awaiting Governor Okowa’s assent are Delta State Economic Planning Council (amendment) Bill 2015, Delta State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy Bill, 2016, Delta State Security Trust Fund (amendment) Bill 2016 and Delta State Anti-Kidnapping Bill, 2016.

Igbuya said this in Sapele at the weekend when he called for more proactive measures by leaders in the country to sustain the trust of followers in the democratic dispensation. He applauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa whom he said has developed the state optimally in terms of roads, public hospitals, agriculture, education and job creation.

Further speaking on the House of Assembly, and their relationship with the executive, the Speaker stated; “Despite the tough economic challenges, we are committed to giving the best representation to our constituencies. The Executive-Legislature harmony is worthy of emulations and commendations. The interest of the people has always been paramount”. 

In a related development, Delta State lawmakers on Tuesday, passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Speaker, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya for strengthening the bond of unity, fostering the spirit of oneness, enhancing development and promoting good governance.

This followed a motion moved by the representative of Warri South 11 state constituency, Barrister Dennis Omovie, during the proceedings in the legislature.

Omovie, who is the chairman, House Committee on DESOPADEC, commended Governor Okowa for his sterling performance and integrity.

“Whereas there is no gainsaying that Nigeria and by extension Delta State suffered dangerous drop in her revenue being a mono- driven economy. Whereas there is no correspondent drop in the very high expectations of the citizenry and by extension our various constituents”.

“We in Delta State can walk tall in the midst of this dangerous paucity of resources because we are blessed with a man who is a wonderful manager. Governor Okowa is managing Delta State as if there is surplus. He is giving to Delta State and Deltans what they expect”.

“I therefore move that a vote of confidence be passed on Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the leadership of this hallowed chambers for their strides and the wonderful leadership they have given Delta State thus far”, he said.

We are ready for 2019, says Delta Speaker Igbuya

Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Tuesday described the elected chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta State Chapter as “a man of huge ability and a politician of conviction and integrity”

Speaking with journalists after the party’s congress in Asaba, Igbuya praised Barrister Kingsley Esiso for his “intelligence, hard work, commitment and consistency since the party’s inception in the state.

“Barrister Esiso is no stranger to party administration. His success is no surprise to those who have observed his journey in politics. His victory is a clear sign of the trust and confidence that the people have in him”.

He advised the chairman and other officials to strengthen the party.

‘The 2015 election brought new challenges to the party. Your leadership will be crucial in 2019. You must work hard to overcome the challenges of 2015 with determination, courage and optimism”

He also expressed admiration for Delta’s tremendous achievements under the PDP’s leadership in the state.

“The PDP has made outstanding achievements in the boosting of the state’s economic and social development as well as leading the people to overcome difficulties and challenges” he said.

Igbuya, others mourn as Senator Nwaoboshi loses dad

Tributes have continued to be showered on late Chief Francis Nwaoboshi as those who knew him lamented his demise.

Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya said he was greatly pained by the news, saying “Delta State has lost a great politician, humanist and community leader.

The death of the 87-year-old political and community leader occurred on Saturday, April 16, 2016.

Igbuya in a condolence message to the family, friends and relatives described late Nwaoboshi as a politician who demonstrated a life of service, love, compassion and excellence.

“Chief Nwaoboshi had a generous spirit. He was dependable in every facet of his life. He was also admired for his vision and his steadfast devotion to his family. He will be remembered as a loving and caring leader” Igbuya said.

Igbuya extended heartfelt commiserations to Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.

“On behalf of my family, the Delta State House of Assembly and the good people of Sapele State Constituency, I extend my heartfelt condolences to, the good people of Ibusa over this painful and irreparable loss.

A hard working government like Okowa’s must get 2nd term

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Friday praised Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for emphasizing point of unity and making the state attractive to investors.

Speaking at a victory reception organized in honour of Governor Okowa by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Delta Central Senatorial District held at Oghara township stadium, the speaker said the governor’s performance provided significant cause for cheer for the good people of Delta State.

“The members of the Delta State House of Assembly are very proud of you. The people of Delta Central are proud of you. The people of Sapele are very proud of you” he said.

The Speaker spoke at length about the leadership qualities of Governor Okowa and the changes that have taken place in the state. He also spoke about the future of the state.

Igbuya commended Governor Okowa for his credible effort to justify the mandate given to him by the people as represented in many visible projects in the state.

“Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. Delta remains a PDP state” 

He said to move forward, “Deltans must support Okowa’s programmes and persuade him to continue in 2019”.

“We are excited about Governor Okowa. He needs eight years to complete the task he has begun. The people of Delta Central will continue to support him”

He implored politicians in the state to strive to consolidate on the gains of democracy.
