Nnamdi Kanu’s Deputy Uche Mefor Floats New Radio Station After Leaving IPOB

Uche Mefor has resigned as the deputy leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu.Apart from resigning as the IPOB deputy leader, Mefor, who was Nnamdi Kanu’s right hand-man, has also floated a new radio station called “Biafra Human Rights and Freedom Radio (BHFR)”.This was disclosed in a tweet on Twitter by Emeka Gift, a top IPOB member and pro-Biafra activist. It said; “Breaking: Mazi Uche Mefor resigns as deputy leader of Indigenous people of Biafra, floats new radio station “Biafra Human Rights and Freedom Radio” (BHFR) More details soon,” Emeka Gift tweeted. The development is coming nine months after Kanu had said Mefor cautioned him on his claim that President Muhammadu Buhari was dead and had since been replaced by Jubril Al-Sudanni from Sudan.“I keep saying this every time, my Deputy, Uche Mefor will say don’t say it, don’t say that Buhari is dead”, Kanu had said during one of his broadcasts on Radio Biafra in February.Mefor had called for a change of approach and attitude among IPOB members but his appeals were met with verbal assaults from members of the group. The estranged IPOB deputy leader is said to be having a feud with Nnamdi Kanu which culminated in a very serious war of words between the duo IPOB leaders.Meanwhile, before Mefor’s resignation, Nnamdi Kanu was accused of being autocratic, arrogant, and fraudulent by some of his former allies. It is believed that the IPOB leader is running a profit-driven freedom fighting movement.

Chiefs beg Defence Headquarters not to withdraw soldiers in Oyigbo

Chiefs in Oyigbo, Rivers State Nigeria have implored the Defence Headquarters not to withdraw soldiers deployed to restore peace in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The chiefs said that such withdrawal would amount to the remnants of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) regrouping.

The chiefs under the aegis of Ogbakor Oyigbo, have also urged all those who deserted Oyigbo to return as normalcy has been restored.

The appeal to the military authorities was made when the Publisher of the Ovation International Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, visited Oyigbo, to assess the situation in the area ground.

A high chief, Eze Ukwu III, Louis Okorie, told Momodu and his delegation that the community chiefs do not approve the withdrawal of soldiers from Oyigbo. He expressed serious concern that if soldiers are withdrawn from Oyigbo, IPOB anarchists would unleash violence in the area.

” The Ogbakor Oyigbo General held a meeting here yesterday and said they will not allow the removal of soldiers from Oyigbo. On 12th of November, 2020 we met with the Local Government Chairman, Gerald Aforji, informing him of our plight. We don’t want Army to be withdrawn for the benefit of Oyigbo people. We need to be careful of the remnants of IPOB terrorists. We thank Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for imposing of curfew which has calmed down the situation in Oyigbo.”

In the same vein, High Chief, Lisbery Onyegorom, narrated that indigenes of Oyigbo were astounded by the wanton destruction unleased on their community by members of the outlawed, IPOB.

“We were surprised by the level of destruction by the IPOB. We are Rivers State and Niger Delta people. Our people are not members of IPOB . I am not aware of any Oyigbo indigene who is a member. We don’t allow that.

“Now, that the IPOB have killed some soldiers, all of them have ran away. The Army is investigating and fishing them out . Most of the IPOB members arrested have given vital information about the remnants.

“We are in support of the Governor’s ban on IPOB activities across Rivers State and hoisting of IPOB Flag.”

Onyegorom frowned at allegation of extrajudicial killings levelled against Nigerian Army by some persons working for some extraneous forces playing petty politics with the Oyigbo issue.

” We are tsolidly behind our Governor’s effort to maintain peace in Oyigbo. The Governor did not say, go and kill people. The Army came on a rescue mission . That’s what they came for. It is the deployment of the Army that give us comfort to remain here. For now, we hear of threat to protest again. Army is going no where. Let the Army stay until we are sure of peace in Oyigbo.”

” Those who ran away should come back. The Army is not chasing any body. Army is not killing any person. Let the Army stay, until we are sure peace has returned.”

On his part, the Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Prince Gerald Oforji said most of the negative information peddled in the media on the situation in the area are unfounded.

“Today, I am very happy for the visit by the Ovation family to assess the wanton destruction carried out on the 20 October by the IPOB. Today ,they have come to assess and see things for themselves based on lopsided information they have been getting concerning Oyigbo. I believe with what they have seen today, the world, can confirm that most of those negative information posted against Oyigbo, against Rivers State, are unfounded

Chief Dele Momodu said he was on an assessment cum sympathy visit to Oyigbo to see the level of wanton destruction perpetrated by IPOB.

Momodu, described as unfounded and untrue insinuation in some quarters that the military have been killing innocent persons in Oyigbo.

“The way they describe Oyigbo as if there is massacre, there is no massacre going on. I have not seen any massacre. I believe, we have moved round extensively, nobody has told me not to move to anywhere. A lot of people have challenged me that I can not come to Rivers and visit Oyigbo.

“So, I am here. For me, it is a mixture of sadness and joy. Joy, that am able to come here in peace, because the impression I got was that nobody could come here at all; that everywhere has been taken over by the military and people are been massacred. I have gone round. I went to the market, I have gone to the police headquarters that was allegedly burnt down.”

Momodu later inspected some State government projects which include: Umunju-Umueze, Umuroke- Umusu-Umuelechi-Umuokpurukpu-Umuagu-Umugwu-Umueke and Umuoyoro Road. Others are: Umuakrikpo Community Primary School, Umuoyoro Community Primary School, Community Primary School Umuobasi Eberi and State School Obibi Umuogba.

How IPOB Used #EndSARS To Attack Igbo Muslims- Mallam Okonkwo

The Director, Islamic Centre, School of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Anofia, Afikpo, Ebonyi State, Mallam Isa Friday Okonkwo, was a former Director of Administration of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

He told Daily Trust how the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) used the #EndSARS protests to attack Igbo Muslims at the centre and the region. He also spoke on how they were ‘caged’ at the centre for days at the height of the crisis.

Before the #EndSARS, let me take us back to 2017, when one of our brothers, who used to be a Muslim, and by name Muhammed Nbono, submitted the names of about 26 Muslims in Igbo land to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as those sabotaging the interest of having their country and thereby marking them for death.

For over a year, there were threat calls coming to all of us from all over the world, from members of IPOB. But after some time, it stopped.

During the #EndSARS protests, the names were re-published on their Facebook pages and the calls resumed. Daily, we get up to three calls from strangers, threatening to destroy us. So, this is on one side. On the other side is this Islamic Centre in Afikpo, which is a unique Islamic school in the eastern part of the country and the whole country.

It has been in existence since around 1953 and it took a new shape in 1983 and from 1983 until date, it has always been graduating scholars from that part of the country.

It is also important to mention that in 2006, there was an attempt to bomb this place. They came and raided the place. Eventually, the destruction was not too much.

So, this time around, they send messages after messages that they will be coming to attack the Islamic Centre. So, all this while there were protests, we have been living in fear. I could be attacked as the person of Isa Okonkwo and the centre could be attacked as the Islamic Centre.

What was your experience during the #EndSARS protests?

We were under siege throughout the protests. We could not even go out. We were in the school with all the students and there were about 300 student boarders from different parts of the country. We could not move anywhere.

So, when the threat was getting too much, we attracted the attention of the IGP, the director of DSS and even later, the governor of the state. That was when we started to have security agencies coming to protect us in the school. So, we first had some policemen who came to stay with us in the school. Later, the GOC of 18 Division instructed the commanding officer of Nkwangu Cantonment and they sent about seven soldiers. So, both the police and seven soldiers are presently with us on the school premises, 24 hours of every day.

How then are the students and the teachers feeling coming to the school to study with policemen and soldiers around?

It was when we saw the policemen that we even felt comfortable to teach and learn. It was so horrible when they were not there. Let me tell you one shocking incident that happened. The chief of the village used to park his cars in the compound of this school because of the cordial relationship between us and the village. So, at a stage, the chief decided to remove his cars. So, I asked the driver, why the sudden removal. He said that the chief said that IPOB is going to attack any moment from now. And that they said that the director is the first they will make sure they eliminate, so, he didn’t want his cars to be damaged because they could mistake his cars for the director’s.

So, you did not receive any support from the people that you are living with as neighbours or did you think this was something beyond them?

When the chief of the village removed his vehicles from the school, we didn’t want to wait for anybody else to tell us it is the right time we looked for security, because from the chief’s statement, which I will later confirmed, it was obvious that the last man that was supposed to protect us is the one running from being attacked or being mistaken for the director.

How many Muslims are in the area and what is the population of all the people?

The village is over 30 per cent Muslim. I cannot say for sure what the population is, but for sure, I think it is the second-highest population of Muslims within a locality in Igboland. After Nsukka, the next is that village, Afikpo. I am talking of indigenous Muslims, who are the citizens of the area.

What are your plans now, considering that the protests have subsided but the tension is still there?

We have a kind of think tank from the Eastern part of the country as Muslims. I have presented this to them. I am one of them, we have a series of meetings on how to intervene.

We have written letters to the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), intimating them of our problems; we have written letters to the IG of Police, to the DG of DSS, the National Assembly. We have also written letters to all the five governors of the south-eastern region.

So, we are planning to address a press conference. But we don’t have the press here in the east. So, we were thinking of coming to Abuja to do that, to let people know how we are living. Because the Americans will always say that the Christians are being victimized in Nigeria. When, they are the ones dealing with every other part of this country, but nobody tells our story, nobody hears us even when we want to shout. So, we are planning to go out and do the shouting. I am one of those persons that used my contacts to reach out to so many places and they started narrating our case.

We also intend to write to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo that have always vilified the Muslims in the east, so they would note what is going on.

They close their eyes as if they don’t know what is going on. So, we also intend to officially write to them. We also intend to write CAN in the eastern part of the country. So that all this will be on the record. So, some of us are planning to have a congress of all the Igbo Muslims all over the world.

But because of fear, we would not want to have a congress where we could all be wiped out at a time. So, these are just some of the thoughts and activities we are having presently.

But IPOB wanted to establish a country for the Igbos and you are Igbo, why do you think they are attacking you then?

People are mistaken their antics. It is not a tribal war. It is a religious war. They claim they are using is that of Biafra and the main actors of the Biafran Civil War were majorly Christians from the north. People like Yakubu Gowon. Today Yakubu Gowon is a chief in the east with red carpet reception because he is a Christian. T. Y. Danjuma is a chief in the east with red carpet reception because he is a Christian. Now, we have never said we are in support of Biafra, or we are against it, so why must we be the first target? It is just because we are Muslims, nothing else.

*Now, the 26 names of the people they published to kill are all Muslims. They’ve never listed any pastor or reverend. What does that show you, it shows that if you are a Christian from the north, you are safe in the hands of Biafra; if you are Muslim from the east, you are unsafe in the hands of Biafra.*

What message do you have for the politicians and the leaders in the region who are the ones that are supposed to protect you?

Our message to the federal, state and local governments in the region is that we are citizens of Nigeria, we are not foreigners, it is just by the design of our creator that we decided to profess a faith in a country that has a Constitution, which states that everybody is free to choose their association. We have chosen Islam as our religion and Allah as our God and we feel strongly that we have not committed any crime by doing that. And they owe us the protection of our lives and properties.

Nnamdi Kanu’s Deputy Uche Mefor Deletes Facebook Page, Goes Underground

The former deputy leader of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Uche Mefor has suddenly deleted his Facebook page and disappeared into the thin air. This recent development has finally collaborated the crack ElombahNews had earlier reported in August.

The estranged deputy leader, Uche Mefor who became very vociferous called for a change of approach and attitude among the members of the movement but his appeals fell to the wrong ears. Instead of resolving Mefor’s outburst diplomatically, Nnamdi Kanu ordered his attack dogs to shred Mefor’s personality into pieces.

Kanu even boasted on his malicious radio that any principal officer of the rogue movement that shares contrary view with that of his own will be automatically dismissed from the organization and punished severely.

ElombahNews had reported about a feud between Mefor and Nnamdi Kanu which culminated to a very serious war of words between the duo.

Sources who are very close to IPOB DOS told ElombahNews that Kanu who could not condone the overbearing nature of Uche Mefor secretly dismissed him from the hierarchy of the organization. His removal was done clandestinely to avoid raising unnecessary eyebrows which could further whittle the scant patronage currently enjoyed by the crooks in charge of the outlawed organization.

Though when ElombahNews probed another source concerning the whereabouts of Uche Mefor and why his Facebook page was taken down, the source said that Mefor took that very decision because of security reasons.

Another reliable ally of Mefor said that Nnamdi Kanu crossed the red line after he disgraced their former African representative, George Onyibe who was a strong hitman of IPOB out of office. What will befall Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB in no distant time will be shocking. Any ear that hears it will tingle, the ally said.

Nnamdi Kanu, who is running a salary driven freedom fighting movement has been accused of being autocratic, arrogant and fraudulent by some of his former allies.

However, IPOB is on the verge of drowning. Many are deserting the rogue movement after discovering how irresponsible and insincere the leaders have been.

“IPOB’s Plan Is To Instigate Another Civil War” – Gov. Umahi Warns Igbos In Rivers State

Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State has warned Igbos in Rivers State to be wary of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) because the outlawed group is working to instigate another civil war.

Umahi spoke during a meeting of the South-East governors with the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo and the Igbo community in the state at Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Sunday.

Umahi, after listening to Governor Nyesom Wike’s narration of the atrocious activities of IPOB in Oyigbo that culminated in the imposition of curfew in the local government area, warned Igbo to be wary of IPOB as the group was “bent on instigating another civil war that will result in the murder of Igbo people.”

The governor said, “I find it nauseating that IPOB could go to Benue and Rivers states to foist its flag and claim the territories belong to the Igbo people. Igbo leadership are opposed to this stance by IPOB.”

Umahi urged Igbo living in the state to respect the government and people of Rivers State adding that Ndi-Igbos cannot support any form of criminality.

Also speaking, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo, said the meeting has reinforced the existing relationship between Igbos and the people of Niger Delta and described Wike as a champion of restructuring of Nigeria and a man who loved justice.

Nwodo, said he was elated to hear from Igbo leaders that under the leadership of Governor Wike, Igbo businesses have continued to thrive.

A former Rivers State governor, Dr Peter Odili, lauded the Igbo leaders for the peace initiative and decision to visit Wike.

Earlier, Wike said the state would continue to be home to people of the Igbo ethnic nationality.

“Tell your people, Rivers people will continue to live together with Igbos. Don’t allow your sons to tell you lies. Igbos are innovative and hardworking. There can’t be Nigeria without Igbos. Nobody should take them for granted. But that doesn’t mean you must allow criminals to spoil your name.

“If I hate Igbo, I won’t appoint your son into my state cabinet two times. But you have to obey rules. Don’t allow criminals to dictate to you,” Wike stated.

Also, present at the meeting were the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr Ipalibo Banigo; and former governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia, among others.

How Nnamdi Kanu destroyed everything we built -IPOB founder Barrister Emeka Emekesiri

Barrister Emeka Emekesiri, the counsel to the Supreme Council of Elders of IPOB, which formed the Customary Government of IPOB, speaks on actions Nnamdi Kanu’s betrayal of the organisation which he hijacked its name and messed up.

He said: “I don’t know how to describe Nnamdi Kanu but without apologies I have come to say that Nnamdi Kanu is the worst evil I have met on earth.

“Tell him I said this. I pray God to give me the ability to forgive that boy.
He destroyed everything we built. He came from MASSOB and joined us in IPOB; I didn’t know who he was. It was just unfortunate.

“I created that name Indigenous People of Biafra and I wrote it in my Book, Biafra or Nigeria Presidency, What Do Igbos Want? and gave reason I called it IPOB.”

He stated that IPOB was meant to be a name for all remnants of Biafra.

“When we created IPOB, it was meant to be named for all remnants of Biafra. It’s not an organization such as the one Nnamdi Kanu went and registered as a limited liability company in UK.

“When he was ostracized from IPOB because of his useless behaviour, he went and used our name, IPOB, and registered it as a limited liability company.
You know, because he is not a lawyer, he didn’t know what I was doing.

“In the first case, I filed, not as a legal entity because you cannot sue a legal entity as it is an amorphous body. With Billie Human Rights Initiative, the Elders of IPOB signed a legal instrument authorizing Bilie Human Rights Initiative to sue on behalf of the Indigenous People of Biafra”.

#EndSARS: Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria (MOBIN) Chairman says they have taken steps to restore peace at Oyigbo

I write to inform all the people who are concerned and worried about the rivers of blood flowing at Oyigbo or Obigbo that Igbo Leaders have taken the necessary steps to restore peace in the place.

Surely, peace shall return to Obigbo, in fact, peace is returning to Obigbo now as I speak because we have put the machineries in place to restore peace. It shall be well with the people of Obigbo. Surely, Obigbo shall enjoy its peace and tranquillity again. This peace is achieved by the same Igbo Leaders who Nnamdi Kanu directed his followers to kill, disgrace, bury alive and stone to death!

We have taken this step because of the innocent children deceived by the fugitive propagandist. We know that some of the people crying out now were the same people who promoted and sponsored Nnamdi Kanu when the Elders of Biafraland ostracised him from IPOB in 2014 and he formed his own faction. They despised His Lordship, His Royal Majesty, The Honourable Justice Eze Ozobu; they despised Dr Dozie Ikedife; they despised Col Joe Achuzia; they despised Chief Barr Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu, and followed a deceiver. However, we have forgiven everybody who was deceived into the Nnamdi Kanu’s cult.

2. When I heard that Nnamdi Kanu made an announcement on his Radio and placed a bounty of N100 million on the head of Governor Nyesom Wike, I knew that he had put the lives of our children in danger. He forgot that Governor Wike is a Governor with State Power in whom sovereignty resides and who has the power to exercise prerogative of mercy under Section 212 of the Constitution of Nigeria to decide who dies or who lives among the convicted criminals. He forgot that Governor Wike is a Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and that no lawyer takes a threat to his life lightly. In fact, a threat to the life of Barrister Nyesom Wike is a threat to all lawyers in the world. What does he want the head of Governor Wike for? Now, Governor Wike has activated and unleashed his powers against innocent people who were deceived by a propagandist living in faraway Europe!

3. I remembered that when Nnamdi Kanu boasted some years ago that he would go to Abuja and behead President Muhammadu Buhari and bring Buhari’s head to Umuahia, the President could not take the threat lightly and therefore sent some Pythons to dance in Nnamdi Kanu’s compound leading to the death of about 350 innocent people even though he reported 28 including his dog. Obviously, Nnamdi Kanu does not understand the powers of sovereignty conferred on a president or governor.

4. My heart is bleeding. I write this message from my heart like a grieving father. Sometimes I blame myself for creating IPOB which has been counterfeited into something else. However, it is a well-known fact that thieves of intellectual properties are only interested in counterfeiting good products. Therefore the original IPOB is a good product which the thief of my intellectual property has counterfeited. All the Governments of this world know the original IPOB and the persons behind the original IPOB. Therefore, the ECOWAS COURT ruled in the Case No ECW/CCJ/APP/06/16 that Nnamdi Kanu does not have the mandate to represent IPOB. Of course, he can represent the limited liability company he registered in the UK but he has no mandate to represent INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA who have been in Court with Nigeria since 2012. The operational name of the original IPOB is the Customary Government of Indigenous People of Biafra (CGIPOB). It is a Government that exists under Customary Law and recognised by the Nigerian Constitution and activated by the Deed Poll of Customary Governance registered under the Nigerian Law just like the Sharia Government in the North exists under the Sharia Law and recognised by the Nigerian Constitution. Therefore, any faction of IPOB that is not recognised by the Customary Government is fake.

5. Sometimes I blame myself for creating IPOB and accepting Nnamdi Kanu into the Movement. Some people have advised that we should remove the name of IPOB from our name because Nnamdi Kanu has counterfeited and damaged the name. It is like advising Nigeria or Britain to remove the name of the Naira or the Pound Sterling because criminals have counterfeited the name of the currency. Well, the mistake has been made but it can be corrected. The name, INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA, is the name I coined for all the remnants of Biafra who were not consumed in the war. It is by this name that we commenced the case between Biafra and Nigeria in 2012 in the Suit No FHC/OW/CS/102/2012 in which we sued in a representative capacity because Biafra is not yet sovereign. The name was abbreviated to IPOB by Dr Dozie Ikedife in 2013. It is the name of a non-sovereign nation. It has no membership but subjects of a non-sovereign nation with indigenous database holding its population just like Nigeria has no membership but citizens and its national database. Any person who says that he is a member of IPOB has been deceived into a cult.

6. The political movement for the Biafrans with membership structure established by a legal instrument under the Nigerian Constitution is the Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria otherwise known as MOBIN which has submitted the Biafran Memorandum to the Nigerian Senate for Devolution of Power to the Regions to create Regional Autonomy for all Nigerians. MOBIN has a membership register and not citizenship database. The Biafran activists who believe in the legal methodology of self-determination consisting of the judicial, political and diplomatic processes are enjoined to apply for membership of MOBIN at http://www.mobinbiafra.org

7. The Customary Government of Indigenous People of Biafra issues the Certificates of Indigenous Identity and ID Cards to its subjects while the Nigerian Government issues National ID Cards and Passports to its citizens. The Customary Government has appointed many Customary Government Ambassadors known as Customary Envoys to represent the Biafrans in many nations of the world as a non-sovereign nation residing in sovereign nations under Customary International Law. We have maintained our position that we are Biafrans living in our ancestral homeland in Nigeria.

8. We have made it clear to the Nigerian Government and the Governments of all the countries of the world that we are Nigerians by citizenship but Biafrans by indigenous identity until we gain independence from Nigeria. This is the position of international law for a non-sovereign nation whose children are scattered in all parts of the world. Nigeria is bound by the rules of both national and international law to protect the lives of the Biafrans living in Nigeria. The Biafrans who believe in us are advised to visit the Customary Government website at http://www.ipobgovernment.org and put their names in the database and contact us by email addressed to info@ipobgovernment.org for further information.

9. The Biafrans in Obigbo or Oyigbo are Nigerians by citizenship but cannot deny their indigenous identity as Biafrans. At the moment, Biafra does not have a delimited and delineated territory but it has a defined people. Biafra is a nation but not yet a nation-state. Our people must understand this fact and rule of law and stop being destroyed for lack of knowledge. The place known as Oyigbo or Obigbo is a Nigerian territory by law but there are Biafrans living there. We are not contesting the Oyigbo Territory with the Nigerian Government for now until our case comes for determination in the Court of competent jurisdiction. If the Senate grants our demands as contained in our Memorandum and restructures Nigeria into Regional Autonomy, Oyigbo shall belong to the South-South Region. The lives of our children must not be sacrificed because of the foolishness of Nnamdi Kanu who lives abroad and deceives them with false propaganda. We have therefore requested Governor Wike to sheath his sword and spare our children. In my capacity as the founder and creator of the entity known as INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA, I apologise to Governor Wike on behalf of the Biafrans who believe in us for the insult and threat to the life of the Governor by the person who has placed a bounty of N100 million on the Governor’s head.

Emeka Emekesiri, Esq, is the Chairman, Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria (MOBIN), and original founder of the Indigenous People of BIAFRA (IPOB) and the Customary Government (CG-IPOB).

#EndSARS: Perspectives on military invasion of Oyigbo, by Odimegwu Onwumere

Since the #EndSARS protests across Nigeria, there have been reports of the Nigerian military in Oyigbo Rivers State.

According to these reports, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had attacked soldiers and police officers, which led to Governor Wike’s interest in the community.

In this series, Odimegwu Onwumere captures the brigandage of the Nigerian military in the community.

Onwumere is a multiple award-winning journalist based in Rivers State.

Wike: The Gunshots Persist

Your Excellency, The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike. Greetings, Sir.

I come to you again with a heart full of tears after my earlier open letter to you begging of you to oversee to the motiveless shootings in parts of Rivers State to immobility. Within hours of that letter, the tears of residents have gone up than they were especially in a place like Oyigbo.

We are inundated with information from residents of that area that they doubt if the unjustifiable shootings are really those from the security agents or some external intruders are using the opportunity to cash in and take over Oyigbo.

Many of the residents have fled their homes. Please, for the sympathy of the living, do make peace. This is more than the alleged hoodlums taking over the #EndSARS protest but something is fishing out from the cupboard concerning the fate of Oyigbo in this time of uncertainties.

Rivers residents – whether born natives or visitors – cannot afford to lose any part of Rivers state to any tribe, whose sole aim is to cleanse a people and occupy their ancestral homes. Some information from a place like Rumukwurushi is that there is a particular people who are guarded by those who were supposed to protect all; and the people are hiding under the cover of the protection they enjoy unleashing mayhem on the residents of Rumukwurushi. The same is applicable to Oyigbo.

Sir, you might not notice what is happening across the state at the same time except for such information like this. You have to try to save the state that you love from falling in the hands of a people who never meant well for us. You have to read history from ancient gallery and stop the neo-ethnic cleansing that is well written bold on the wall in guise of #EndSARS protest.

In a plain language, sir, Oyigbo without a doubt has fallen in the hands of wrong people while many still believe that the gunshots were only from the security agents. No. You need to act now else every genuine person living in Oyigbo and some parts of Port Harcourt will wake up from memories’ grave. It would be sacrilegious that we are dead in Rivers state while our homes are taken over by the cold-blooded killers.

In war, it is certain that the end will come but ordinary people are not certain of surviving that long. I am not pointing finger at any person but no man would stand and watch his enemies hide under the cover of security agents to unleash terror for the purpose of either vendetta or land grabbing. And if you don’t act now, parts of Rivers state may be in the hands of the enemies yet we misconstrue the gunshots as those from the ‘genuine’ security agents. Let the year 2020 not be the year we are regressing back to 1700 when lords governed fiefdoms. Someone might not be a robber but if such a person goes to the bank like a robber, he or she would be labeled a robber.

Some persons have dressed like robbers in Rivers state. They don’t care to know that time of acquiring territories by force is gone and we cannot afford to stand on the shadow of the keep. Our state cannot be taken over by force, by any tribe. You need not fold your hands because there will be no excuses and no exceptions should these shootings persist. Watch if the enemies are close, hiding under the #EndSARS brouhaha.

Your Excellency, it would be better that I slap your face with words today in lieu of you waking up tommorrow and notice that your grandparents graves have become home for people who did not buy them from you and who do not mean well to you, either.
There are screams and cry ongoing in a place like Oyigbo. It is not too late to check who are causing the residents of that area to cry. The residents can barely breathe. Don’t allow the door to slam against the wall.

The presence of heavy security men in Oyigbo and in some parts of Rivers state is not a shield. Gunshots are locating the residents more that the presence of the security agents could protect them. This has spurred my suspicion if the town has not fallen in the hands of enemies to kill as many residents as possible while we presume all happening are part of the wave from the #EndSARS uproar oblivious that some people with ulterior motive are bent to take our ancestral land.

The door is open to bring about the needed peace which that part of the state facing heavy presence of gunshots need. How can a people’s right be intruded? The language of gun is not smooth. Let the soldiers not make the residents believe that they are the injured party whereas the residents cannot tell for sure where the sporadic gunshots are coming from and the military Code of Conduct is not observed.

Sane soldiers do not wave unlocked gun recklessly in the midst of civilians. Unguided bullets flying everywhere. Sir, the language of gun is not smooth, not a political agenda. Therefore it is time you introduced and enforced basic human rights this time. Residents cannot afford to walk in their underwear and none knows it were intruders greeting them in the language of gun.

Yes. Oyigbo might not be a city but there are a people who see her as paradise. So, make sure you find out why farmers cannot go to farm because their crops are eaten by human-guided-animals and they are killed if they complain. The same thing is happening to every resident under the #EndSARS hijacked-show-of-shame.

Your Excellency, the grumbling across the state is getting out of hand. Maybe, you have to walk the towns if your security intelligence was not seeing too well. No legitimate child deserves to be called an infidel in his paternal home. The gunshots in Oyigbo are irritating pretense that Rivers state is still in the #EndSARS era. Some people have taken over that era flaunting dangerous folly. I had no difficulty in restraining myself but had to write you in order to stop this stupid importance it has become to a people to desert residents with gunshots at the Haunting Hour which is now their bloody manifesto.

Wike: Before Rivers Faces Lekki’s Fate

Your Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Barr Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, greetings.

As you might know, war happens in the absence language, so I am writing this letter to you, to mould your language and make sure it gets to the ears of everyone in order to avert the unnecessary war smelling in Rivers State.

As you might be aware, there have been some recorded damage to lives and property in the state just as some other states have recorded since the #EndSARS protest was seen in the streets across the country some two weeks ago.

It is sad with some reportedly number of civilians and security personnel casualties recorded here and there. May their souls find rest.

Sir, what may happen in Rivers was how eyewitnesses said it was rumoured about Lekki before it was attacked by supposedly soldiers. Rivers State is not immune to attack if appropriate measures are not taken. Your state may not be safe as army is being rumoured of gearing to role out armouries soonest (if not today) to revenge their alleged colleagues who were killed during the ongoing #EndSARS protest in some parts of the state.

As a governor, I know that you love what is in front of you. But soldiers will always love what is behind them. In places like Oyigbo, Mile 3 and co, I hope you know there have been heavy shooting in these areas with lives and property reportedly damaged? This is not good for the state.

In earnest, I plead with you to defend the lives of Rivers residents against whoever that had prepared to devour them. It is not good to kill and destroy people’s property. Rivers shouldn’t be left to appear weak in these times of trial when you are known as a strong man who can go to any length to defend Truth and especially, what you believe in.

Sir, it is pertinent at this time to learn from The Art of War by Sun Tsu. Bring peace in Rivers State by not fighting. Man can die for many causes but none is worth killing. Rivers is at the verge of experiencing Lekki’s fate and collectively, we should not allow this to happen. There could have been provocations here and there but peace remains supreme. Hence, do make sure that Rivers State is safe and the remaining lives and property are intact.

It won’t be in your good name for posterity if you don’t use your executive power to stop the marauding soldiers. They could have been provoked but they should remember that this is a democracy and not autocracy. They should use their intelligence measures to work and not turning to happy-trigger soldiers they are turning to against residents with sporadic gunshots becoming the unpleasant music we hear in the air.

Sir, I am very sure that this message will touch your heart and the appropriate measures will be put in place to stop soldiers from turning some parts of the state like Oyigbo to a battlefield. Yes, some individuals might have provoked the sanity of the state but not all the residents should be treated as mad people.

Long Live Gov. Wike!
Long Live Rivers State!!!
Long Live Peace in Rivers!!!

Thanks.

GUNSHOTS: Wike, Thanks For Speaking Up

Your Excellency, Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike. Greetings sir.

Thank You for speaking up about the unrest in some parts of the state within hours, something that took a particular leader some two weeks to do. Within 12hrs, after I called your attention of the happenings in places like Oyigbo and Rumukwurushi in two open letters, you showed that you have a human soul. Thank You.

I would not like to delve into the politics of proscribing a particular group. Government and the group have a right to settle their scores. I believe they both will achieve this soonest. What I would like to discuss is whether peace has returned to these areas.

Then again, I had thought that you would have set up a committee to evaluate the damage recorded in these areas and look into what led to the supposed break up of law and order before taking the stance you have taken. Please, sir, I am not challenging your Executive Order, but I will like you to remember that public opinion is part of governance. This is what I am just doing.

There is no better law that would stand in any given environment in the absence of peace. My position is for you to make sure that the wanton shootings in Oyigbo is rescinded. It is only when people have started wearing smiles again should we know that peace has returned to Oyigbo where scores have become victims of an avoidable impasse.

Regarding Iriebe, it behooves you to monitor the activities of traders in the markets in the area closely and investigate if any section of the markets took laws into their hands during the EndSARS brouhaha. If any section of the markets is found to have caused a break of law and order, such a market and their traders should be thoroughly sanctioned just like you have further proscribed a group in the state.

Peace is an essential commodity that will keep the state moving forward to its utopian height. I am awake by 2am writing you because peace has eluded the environment, peace is now selfish, intolerant and impatient. Sounds of gunshots are still buzzing out from some quarters. I had thought that you would tell security agents to sheathe their swords but attack only when they are confronted with firearms by any person or organization. Rather than do this, reports from Oyigbo is that due to the reckless shootings, many unsuspecting members of the public have been pulled down in their houses by what we should rather characterise as stray bullet. But te bullets didn’t just leave the gun, someone projected it, hence such a bullet is not stray but rather a projected bullet.

Sir, I wanted you to resolve the subject matter with understanding which brings peace, not with peace that passes understanding. Rivers State has to start making peace. This will help humanity here. The peace I am looking at is the type where people are nice to each other and government uses power of love to conquer love of power.

Your Excellency, there is no freedom in the absence of peace. The residents should be free from fear to talk, walk in the streets and sundry. Sir, it will be in the interest of all if you understand that no nation has achieved peace by force. With due respect, you need to understand in humility of activities going on in the state. Make the state to have inner peace. Create peace in Oyigbo, Iriebe, Rumukwurushi and watch its maintenance.

Thank You.

Oyigbo Residents Fleeing

The Army has resorted to wanton destructions,
and the dead is only thing they want.

Fear has prepared residents to flee, while
unnecessary anger becomes army’s logo.

Young men are not tired of running. No one
stands his ground. All hiding behind shadows.

Residents are fleeing just as that part of
brain which kills stress has been killed with turmoils.

Army is not only prepared for fighting, but
are fighting undercover battle. There’s conflict.

Lost has become the destination of many,
fright the living now wear as toga.

Army has refused to run to peace: The reason
they are stationed in Oyigbo. But rather wearing

the town to fatigue, weariness being
residents habit. Let Odi Massacre not repeat.

How can an actor who was born to touch
legs on stage now touches legs on grave?

This is the fate of residents fleeing
their abodes their hearts are left behind.

Let the governor discern something
from within. When life is full of running

runners should come back with roses,
not woes and hues. They can’t breathe.

Let chasing and fleeing residents
not be the problem-solution.

Wike And The Proscribed Org.

Every governor of a state has a right to implement any decision that has democratic flavour in his state. For Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to have proscribed a particular organization in his state is left for the authorities to scrutinise.

What I am concerned about is his command following the proscription that LGAs chairmen, chiefs, youths in the state should fish out the members of the organization. If this is the way Wike had thought he can bring the organization to a halt in his state, I am not sure it will be the best approach.

We are living in a country where some people use undue advantage against each other. Wike’s order could get out of hand and become something sinister than the fear he had thought he was about to curb. The youths could use this against each other by fishing out their ‘enemies’ for the purpose of vendetta. As a result, the monkey that was given a cup to drink with, retrieving it from the monkey could be a Herculean task.

I would solicit that the governor as a matter progressivism has to consult wide before coming to certain Executive Order. The country is already at its hibernating peak and it wouldn’t be nice to ask youths to fish out supposed culprits in the society.

However, Wike’s statement could be an oversight but what I think it was supposed to be was that the community leaders should aid security men and women in combatting crimes. Wike has to know that language is very ambiguous and while using it, one should make sure he or she comes down to the true meaning of what such language was intended to represent else some persons will see a dog as a pet while others will see the same dog as a dangerous animal.

Wike: Let IPOB Not Be Emotional

A fortnight, the Governor of Rivers State, Barr Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike affirmed the proscription of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) in his state. I have read the transcript of his statement and also watched the video. I have also read some comments by the supposed members of the IPOB and they were not smiling over that statement by Wike. Judging the statement by Wike and those of IPOB, I discovered that the two parties were emotional in their different causes.

Governor Wike was moved by emotions to make the pronouncement in order to protect his state or maybe after his security Intelligence acquinted him with carnage that happened in Oyigbo in the event of #EndSARS empasse.

No governor under the oath of a given state would allow his domain be ruined by any body or organization. No governor across the country would allow organizations such as Dey Gbam or Deywell to function. I, for one, was not saying that the ruins recorded in Oyigbo during the peak of #EndSARS were caused by IPOB.

What I had expected from the IPOB hierarchy and it’s authorities was to reach out to Wike diplomatically instead of heaping threats and insults around him. By so doing they could understand him better and operate within the ambits of the law governing the country which Wike took oath on. Rather, the IPOB members started behaving above the board by insulting Wike.

I am not holding brief for Wike nor IPOB. What I was saying is that IPOB should have not allowed emotions becloud their sense of reason when Wike made that proscription pronouncement. Wike was ready to keep an oath on the Nigerian Constitution with his last breathe as governor.

It could be recalled that he was not after IPOB alone. When COVID-19 tension was high in the country and there were lockdowns, Wike seized not only trailers and goods of some persons from a tribe in the country who disobeyed the Executive Order of the State but he also detained the persons. He didn’t care if the persons were Ikwerre, Ngwa, Ahoada, Kanuri etc. He did it to protect the oath he took to govern Rivers under the laws of Nigeria, not under the laws of anyone or organization.

I, for one, know how dangerous oath can be. This also could be what Wike was after. The IPOB was supposed to be proud of Wike because the voice that came under his throat against IPOD had never been heard before. Till recently, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never stopped praising Wike for his kindness towards him (Kanu). So, what came over IPOB after Wike made the statement that they could not retrospect how kind he has been to any peaceful protest. It was expected of IPOB to investigate the degree of what happened in Oyigbo and come out with blueprint that will exonerate or implicate its members. It didn’t do that. Rather, emotions were released and all were calling for Wike’s head.

If Wike said Rivers State belonged to the Niger Delta, this was his conviction. He needs intellectual engagement to dissuade his mind to believe otherwise. Life shouldn’t be about insult and raising over-the-board-voice where not necessary. Mountains have risen and fell, the sun withered, land claimed the sea, but what must be must be. So, let all and sundry keep calm. Tommorow is unpredictable and overwhelming.

Wike is needed more whether in the South-South, Southeast or Niger Delta than few irrationally aggrieved persons maybe calling for his head because he joined the Federal roadmap that Proscribed IPOB.

Proscription is not the end of any organization facing such fate like the IPOB. What any sane organization does is to rebrand when hit by controversy inlieu of giving the impression that it has the power to give life or take life.

IPOB: Who Are The Niger Deltans?

I have learnt early in life that the enemies outside can’t hurt one if not permitted by the enemies inside. As a result, enemies are being created inside the Niger Delta because insiders allowed it. They allowed it when a section of the Niger Delta has shown divisive tendencies as if they solely own the Niger Delta. For instance, after Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State proscribed IPOB and said that his state is Niger Delta, some uncordinated voices from Bayelsa warned the IPOB that they are Niger Delta. This divisive behaviours among the parties compelled me to check again if there are no longer nine states that made up the Niger Delta.

My entreaty showed me that the Niger Delta region of Nigeria comprises nine states: Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers. So, how come certain states in the South-South think they are more Niger Delta than others? This is appalling and a divisive approach among states who were supposed to hold a strong bond. They avoided the mantra which states that divided we fall but United we stand. Besides, it is very wrong for the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) to see the #EndSARS protest in any parts of the states in South-South as the handiwork of the IPOB. This is a misplacement of aggression. There could have been a crop of the IPOB members in the protests but this should not be misconstrued as an IPOB protest. If any security officer from any parts of the country died in the cause of the protest in the South-South, this doesn’t also mean that IPOB was responsible. Let the IYC quide its perception about the #EndSARS protest.

I have been preaching peace before and since the protest started across the country till today, and if we agree that the Niger Delta is not all about the states in the South-South, we should stop this glaring divisive mindset which has been the occupation of certain states that claim Niger Delta above others. We should learn from a statement such as Suzy Kassem’s below:

“The most dangerous people in the world are not the tiny minority instigating evil acts, but those who do the acts for them. For example, when the British invaded India, many Indians accepted to work for the British to kill off Indians who resisted their occupation. So in other words, many Indians were hired to kill other Indians on behalf of the enemy for a paycheck. Today, we have mercenaries in Africa, corporate armies from the western world, and unemployed men throughout the Middle East killing their own people – and people of other nations – for a paycheck. To act without a conscience, but for a paycheck, makes anyone a dangerous animal. The devil would be powerless if he couldn’t entice people to do his work. So as long as money continues to seduce the hungry, the hopeless, the broken, the greedy, and the needy, there will always be war between brothers.”

The above narrative may be what is happening in the collective and expensive Niger Delta that was supposed to unite, but sadly, the enemy has planted seed of discord among people who were brothers but were divided on the pursuit for paltry. If we agree that there are nine states that made up the Niger Delta, we should understand that a Leonardo da Vinci warns against kingdom dividing against each other.

Vinci warns, “As every divided kingdom falls, so every mind divided between many studies confounds and saps itself.” Let Niger Deltans not turn themselves into slaves just for the shear hatred of unity. Let’s learn from the writings of Suzy Kassem:

“When two brothers are busy fighting, an evil man can easily attack and rob their poor mother. Mankind should always stay united, standing shoulder to shoulder so evil can never cheat and divide them.”

How long shall we (the Niger Deltans) in Nigeria continue to divide ourselves among caste, creed, culture? We should understand that what is undivided remains most the jewel.

Problem In Oyigbo

The problem in our Oyigbo started
from innocence. Now all are running.

Soldiers are in sporadic shooting,
like they are in shooting range.

From definitively wicked, we hope
to see Oyigbo in truly peace.

How can the inhabitants deserve mercy
when what they want is justice?

Wickedness is often promoted to
punish good men,
when naughtiness replaces morality.

Wickedness has brought sorrow, and some
say no one succeeds without being wicked
on his way.

This is an obscene story, where the world is
full of wickedness. When did Oyigbo turn to
torturous executioner’s ground?

We hope to seeing unrelenting vindictiveness,
and ask humanity to stop reading
history of wickedness.

Detest such a history, as you could
to every form of cruelty.

Let mankind be strong in gentleness, hence
there won’t be a place left for hatred.

Problem In Oyigbo (2)

Oyigbo residents can’t find
the meaning of sleep in the dictionary

since the soldiers came into town. Soldiers believe that to reform the people,

you have to kill them all, and
burn their houses.

Something strange has befallen the ones
precious Oyigbo. There is horror, killer, monster

in one little town at the same time. Soldiers have driven sane people to madness,
dignitaries to their knees.

The moment is not for soul searching but of
sunset,
survival,
terror.

How can we get back the Oyigbo that was
a ray of sunshine? This is a serious issue.

Let’s write a book on Oyigbo and title it:
Let this carnage stop. I know justice

will prevail later. But people are being
mowed down by pellets like a serial killer

is let loose. The soldiers invasion is spreading
more than Corona Virus, more than a pandemic

and through the window, the sun turns bloody,
and you can read all isn’t well in Oyigbo.

Problem In Oyigbo (3)

Today, Abiriba and Ohafia quarters
fell in the hands of soldiers,

we don’t know whether to call them
peacemakers or peace-maimers.

Houses were touched, just as
humans have been lost since

they started the occupation of
peacekeeping or peacekickers in town.

Single word can’t cover the broken emotions,
in a land where language is patriarchal.

People watch the language of gun in Oyigbo
that can’t be captured with the mind.

The heart is reading a book with title:
Recklessness, with dangerous faults

written by soldiers. This is hurtful policies,
with cruelty and domination.

This is not a magic splash. Oyigbo
is shot at and captured in fear.

Even in the abodes, you don’t know
who will breathe last by the soldiers’ pellets.

Oct. 30 2020.

Problem In Oyigbo (4)

There is always a painful emotion
aroused by the unhappy mood of another.

When did you fortify your heart
against the suffering of the other?

Some people have no help,
they only survive by a pang of pity.

Let’s pity those who don’t feel
anything at all

who don’t have a tender heart
for lives lost and property destroyed.

Be glad if you have a human heart,
Oyigbo is crying while half-asleep.

Do not pity and call it passion, or
flatter her and call it love, or

call tension peace, or
call gossip news.

Oyigbo shouldn’t be subjugated
when anyone has the chance, and

don’t strike her without need, when
shelter of compassion ought be her reward.

We should always read the signpost
scribbled pity.

On it leads to the street
where vengeance is sent on errand.

Pity is a gift of a gentle heart.

Oct. 30 2020.

12.

Problem In Oyigbo (5)

Soldiers have put Oyigbo in coma
for over a week. Shooting is

different from curfew. Many spines
have been smashed in sporadic shootings.

Now, very shortly, people will start
to raise dishonourable graves of their

once loved ones felled by reckless pellets
of petty men defending a flag

they soaked in blood at Lekki Massacre
when the world became narrowest.

There are a lot of lonely people in the world,
left to remember nothing but pain, and

Oyigbo will be digging the biggest grave
where relics of unrest will be buried.

People Are Destroying Properties In The Name of IPOB in Ebonyi State- Govt.

STATE-WIDE BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, ENGR. DAVID UMAHI, FNSE, FNATE ON THE RECENT INVASION OF HOODLUMS INTO THE STATE ON TUESDAY 27TH OCTOBER, 2020

I bring greetings to you all.

2. Let me apologize to you all for the crippling of our state activities by criminals and hoodlums who came to loot and kill our people yesterday, Monday, 26th October, 2020.

3. I offer my sincere condolences to security agents and traders who lost their lives yesterday when these criminals entered the state.

4. Let me also offer my sympathy to all those wounded, killed, whether security agencies, civilians, or criminals as every live is sacred before God and should be seen as such by everyman.

5. On Tuesday, the 20th of October, 2020, those who invaded our state and destroyed our infrastructure came from outside. Yesterday, Monday, 26th October, 2020 those who came are Ebonyians from a particular village and a Local Government in the name of IPOB.

6. We know these people, we know their fathers. Same people that abducted some policemen who were on peace mission in their community sometime last year even though the policemen were later released by my intervention.

7. I have offered details here so that you know we know you very well and you are responsible for the killing and looting in your state using the cover of IPOB. I refuse to buy into this as a criminal is a criminal and criminality is criminality.

8. I, therefore, appreciate our security agencies for their maturity and listening ear to me yesterday not to retaliate. However, it is unconventional for people to invade a police station, burn the police station, kill the police people and take their guns.

9. It is uncommon for you to attack the army who were protecting you, strategic government assets too and yet they remain unprovoked. Security agencies in the state have asked me to please plead with you to stop attacking them and burning their stations.

10. Let me assure Ebonyians that more security agencies were deployed from outside the state last night and they have been deployed to protect you.

11. Social-economic activities in Ebonyi State must return now, go about your normal businesses in peace.

12. To our young children who are hiding under IPOB to kill us, we do not deserve it, our government has done their best to give you good governance, where we have failed as human beings, I here again offer my apologies with a firm offer and promise to make amends with your inputs.

13. Today, I plead with these young hoodlums killing us in the name of IPOB to withdraw peacefully to their houses. Security agencies must please give them peace to do so. They must be allowed free access to return to their communities.

14. I will compensate all families whose loved ones were either injured or killed during this unfortunate period, whether security agencies or civilians or even these hoodlums.

15. On palliatives, we have shared all palliatives we bought for our people.

16. You are aware that we spent billions buying palliative which we shared to you, polling unit by polling unit irrespective of political alliances.

17. We reached over 600,000 Ebonyians including those in Lagos and Abuja, the little one left now is left for our Ebonyi State University Students who were not in session.

18. School has resumed; they have started carrying their items, the only items left are being taken now by students and they are 50 bags of just 10kg rice, 200 bags of 20kg rice 1,500 cartons of tin tomatoes, 2000 gallons of oil, 2000 cartons of noodles and these items for the students put together is not up to what we gave to polling units.

19. We do not have any palliatives unshared. We have gone ahead with both the state and Local government to make provision for the second phase of palliative slated for December for our people.

20. We have stood with our people in this trying period notwithstanding our meager resources.

21. We are working on how to assist our parents to ensure our students go back to school by reducing school fees, but you must know that there is opportunity cost, when one is done, another one may not be done because of our meager resources.

22. I, therefore, ask Ebonyians to go back to their normal activities while I offer my heartfelt condolences to all those who lost their lives, property and wounded.

23. I call on all youths, whether good or bad to dialogue with my government and make their inputs in governance.

24. I have today set aside the sum of 2.6bn SME fund for organized youths cooperative in all the Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State. Let us dialogue on how you could benefit from it. This is aside from the over 100 Executive Council members, over 1100 TAs and over 2000 Ebonyians who occupy political positions in the state of which 90 percent of those who occupy this political position are youth and over 30 percent of them are also women.

25. We have done a lot in our empowerment program including the One Man, One Hectare of Land which over 2000 youths are participating.

26. I again plead with our young ones, please, no more attacks, no more destruction of our common asset, no more killing us, killing you or even security agencies.

27. Together we are strong and together, this moment will pass over us to the glory of God.

#EndSARS: Gov Wike sacks IPOB from Rivers State over massive violence and destruction

A STATE-WIDE BROADCAST REINFORCING THE PROSCRIPTION OF IPOB IN RIVERS STATE

BY
GOVERNOR NYESOM WIKE, CON, GSSRS, POS
23rd OCTOBER 2020.

My Dear Good People of Rivers State,

2. The Rivers State Government views with serious concern the unending destructive activities of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples Organization of Biafra (IPOB) in Rivers State.

3. Recall that the IPOB was classified as a terrorist organization by the Federal High Court and subsequently proscribed in September 2017 by the Federal Government.

4. However, despite its ban, the group has continued to operate in parts of the country, including Rivers State in furtherance of its alien political objectives.

5. Since its proscription, the group has carried out intermittent processions in parts of Rivers State, especially in Oyigbo and some notorious suburbs in Port Harcourt Local Government Areas.

6. More often than not, these illegal processions have become regular occasions for armed IPOB members to disturb the peace of the State by unleashing violence and destruction on lives and property at will.

7. The Rivers State Government had severally pleaded, warned and even advised IPOB and its members to discontinue its insurrectional actions in Rivers State to no avail.

8. Instead, we were all witnesses to yet, another orgy of violence and destruction inflicted by IPOB at Oyigbo Local Government Area and some parts of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area on Tuesday 21st October 2020.

9. This evil, wicked and audacious action resulted in the unnecessary loss of scores of lives, including soldiers and police officers, and the destruction of both public and private properties, including police stations, court buildings and business premises.

10. Not done, they also visited physical violence on members of some targeted community which, but, for the quick intervention of the State Government and the security agencies, would have resulted in some form of internecine bloodbath in the State.

11. Today, IPOB continued with its devilish and destructive activities at Rumukwurushi, Iriebe and Oyigbo in open defiance of the State Government’s curfew on human movements.

12. Security intelligence and surveillance have revealed that IPOB has continued to expand its membership drive, holding meetings regularly, and expanding its logistical base, including the maintenance of illegal detention cells in Emenike and other parts of Diobu, Port Harcourt.

13. As a matter of fact, Oyigbo town has practically become the group’s main operational base in Rivers State, from which they’ve become notorious for launching premeditated violence and terror on the State, businesses and innocent citizens.

14. As a people, we have become very much unsettled by the terrorist acts and endured the continuing irritations, violence, destruction and provocations of IPOB in and against the people of Rivers State.

15. We agree that Rivers State is part of Nigeria and has always been a home for all Nigerians and will continue to be because this is our true character.

16. But it must also be understood that Rivers State belongs to the indigenous people of Rivers State.

17. As a stranger element with strange political ideology therefore, IPOB has no legal or moral right to invade Rivers State or any part therefore at its behest; to disturb public peace; and subject lives and property to violence or threat of destruction under any guise.

18. What is clear from this behaviour is that our love, accommodation and hospitality towards all are being mistaken for weakness by the banned IPOB.

19. This being so, the time has come for us to sound this notice of warning that: enough is enough!!! We can no longer tolerate this IPOB evil monster in Rivers State. Never.

20. As a Government, we owe our people and all residents the responsibility to protect their lives, property and wellbeing and to prevent trouble-makers of all shades and character from violating our collective peace, security and pursuit of happiness.

21. Therefore, in view of the fact that IPOB has since been proscribed throughout Nigeria; and

22. Having come to the firm conclusion that the activities of the banned IPOB are not just dangerous to lives and property but also constitute clear and present threat to the existential interest and aspirations of Rivers State and all our people;

23. We have decided to reinforce, implement and enforce the existing judicial and national ban on IPOB by putting a total and complete stop to its presence and or activities in Rivers State or any part thereof.

24. Accordingly, as from today 23rd October 2020, the Rivers State Government has:

[ ] (ii) Outlawed IPOB from existing and or operating in Rivers State or any part thereof in line with the proscription order of the Federal High Court and the Federal Government.

(ii) No form of procession and or agitation by IPOB or any of its affiliates is allowed to take place in Rivers State or any part thereof, hence forth.

(iii) Security agencies are hereby directed to stop any form of procession or agitation by IPOB in Rivers State or any part thereof and arrest and prosecute any person or group that identifies with the membership or activities of IPOB in the State;

(iv) Government will issue an executive order to strengthen and ensure the effective enforcement of these measures;

(v) I will be meeting with all leaders of youth groups and community development committees in the State on Monday 26th October 2020 to take wholistic measures to counter and stop all IPOB activities in Rivers State;

(vi) Mr. Stanley Mgbere from Onne is hereby declared wanted for leading members of the banned IPOB to cause the recent violence and destruction of lives and property in Onne in Eleme Local Government Area; and

(vii) A ransom of N50,000,000.00 will be given to any person with useful information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of the said Mr. Stanley Mgbere.

25. I wish to appeal to the people of Oyigbo Local Government Area to remain calm and not to take the laws into their hands despite the intense provocation as government has the capacity to deal with the challenge and ensure the safety of lives and property in the Local Government Area.

26. We will soon carry out on the spot inspection and assessment of the destruction they have suffered and take appropriate measures to mitigate the loss and damage caused to lives and property.

27. We hereby express our sympathies to the families of all those that have either lost their loved ones or suffered damages to their properties from the destructive acts of IPOB in our State.

28. Be assured that they have not died in vain and we will do everything within our powers to give all the victims justice.

29. We appeal to leaders of the various ethnic groups residents in the State to ensure that their members respect the sensibilities of our people and refrain from provocations and acts of hooliganism that could breach peace and security in the State.
